I am wondering how to take out the intake butterfly on a stock GT. If I take it out, is there anything else special I have to do? Is this a smart thing to do?

This belongs in Newbie Zone.... you should do research on B-valve bro... go check out Installs section and it should be there...

Disconnect the hose from B-valve, open the box and remove the valve.. it should pop right out. make sure you plug the hose with something.... It should give you a better sound when you are at 2500RPM or higher... i don't think it gives you that much power but you can look for youself at the dyno section.. someone dynoed it... it is located at the index of this site... go find it..

Remove the valve and you will like it. It dont cost you anything.

the way you do it is by disconnecting the three clips that hold your stock airbox in.. there is one on the left hand side and 2 in the back...

then you disconnect the air hose thing that goes to the engine (the big one)

then you disconnect the two hoses facing the back side that connect into the airbox.. one is bigger than the other and the 2 are right on top of each other... also dont forget to unclip the metal clip thing that right on top of those two hoses...

unclip your air flow sensor... the square piece on the right..

now you can take off the cover... push towards the back of the car and up.. and the cover will come off... the butterfly slides right off...

only thing is theres a hose normally attached to the butterfly... you have to put a screw in that hose to maintain vaccum...

other than that you're done.

oh and moving to newbie zone.

No, the butterfly valve is part of the stock intake box. If you get a cold air intake, you will be replacing the entire stock intake system from the box to the rubber tubing. By the way, if you're not going to get a CAI yet and removing the butterfly valve, I have a K&N filter that I'm trying to sell for $20.
