I've been thinking about selling my 00' GTS and in a while buy a new 2008 Scion TC. For those that have a Scion what color do you have, i can't decide what color?

I know thier pure priced and all but how do they hold thier value? I'm probly going to take a trip to the dealer and test one out, i like the new headlights and tails. wish they still had the RS blue out. i just want something thats going to be more relible for college.

They hold they're value very well. I have seen 05's and 06's listed on dealer lots for more than what they sold for originally.

I have a Blackberry Crush xB, looks like maroon, and there is a similar color for the tC. Although, for the tC, I would recommend white or silver.

The tC looks great in a lot of colors.

Silver, white, black, blue, red. Especially red.

What's so different about these other than the minor appearance upgrades? I'd wait till next year to see if something better replaces the tC.

just go get a used S2k. Similar in pricing.

Not similar in space or insurance. Remember this is a college kid. The tC is much safer and practical.

I honestly would wait and see what happens. This is the last year for the tC. That or go with the new xB or xD. Plenty of space/power/style/comfort/safety/practicality... The new xD may be a good bet for you if you are considering a tC.

ok hes in college, and is thinking about buying a new car? neither option would be good then.

He should keep the Celica, and use the money to pay off student loans.

i would but the way i see it, my car is 7 years old, has a bad synchro and i dont have any cash to get it fixed. i like the TC as opposed to a xB or xD, mainly because of the coupe look.

i think my best bet right now is to sell the celica, after it's sold i'll buy some cheap car (to commute until i'm done with this college). or possibly keep the celica as a summer car and w/e i get as a winter beater.

then i'm going to transfer somewhere closer, sell the beater and buy a new 2008. i love the celica but i also hate it. before i buy a new car i'd test drive whats new. Does that sound practical ?

but i didnt know this was the last year of the TC.

cant afford the SI, if i got a civic it would just be the coupe.

my dad got a new SI w/ navi cost close to 25K, but it's pretty badass.

It's unclear whether there will be another, but given the fact that there are ton's of tC's on the road, I am sure there will be a new one.

Scion's have a life cycle of 3 years. After 3 years, there is a product refresh.

would i be able to have a dealer order a new 2008 TC next year from the factory?

your best bet financially is going to be to fix your bad synchro and tough it out with the celi for a few more years. College is expensive beyond belief, unless your parents just throw money at you the whole time. You dont want to get there and settled in just to find out that you are stuck in the dorms for all your years because your car payment is taking the extra cash you need for an off campus house.

true, but i figure whats another however many thousand. the good thing about where i live is i dont pay rent. i have to pay myself for college, but i think rather then fix the trans. just sell and buy a new car. i figure why not try to make a profit and sell the celica because i bought it cheap, rather then dump money into it.

yea, thats defently true. i love how the celica handles and lift is awesome. its just my tranny is basically screwed and i dont have the cash to get it fixed. to me the tC is like the celica of scions.

I really liked my Scion when I had it. I traded in my 2000 GTS which I bought new for a 2006 tC. I knew when I bought it that it wasnt going to be as fast or as agile as the GTS but it beat the hell out of the squeaky ass end of the Celica and the crappy sunroof. It was a comfortable ride and I actually got more compliments on that car than I ever did the Celica. I kept it for a year and traded it in on a new s2k. I never had a problem with it.

Black Sand Pearl. It never got a blemish the year that I had it. Never used the warranty. No complaints whatsoever. I thought it was a damn good car for the money. The TRD springs are a must though. I think I got around 10 for the celica.

Mazda3 gets better mileage than a tC, and is faster

and handles better

and gets better resale value (remember, they couldn't keep them on dealer lots when they first came out)

a fair trade off for reliability to a car enthusiast

tC would be more reliable. Although, the 2.3 that is in the 3 is in a lot of other Ford's and Mazda's.

i've been looking at the maxda 3 and that seems more realistic. i cant belive its only about 15,500, the scion would be about 4K more.

i've heard the parts and labor are more expensive with mazdas is that true? are there any things i should know about the mazda3 ? one thing i couldnt find out is if the mazda3 i Sport comes with keyless entry.

personally, i'd stray away from anything from mazda that isn't rotary. For that price range, i'd go with toyota's reliability. Though, if I had the money to back it... I'd go grab that old 180zx at the lot down the street and fix it up.

its cheaper
its more fun to drive
it performs better
it gets better gas mileage

and yes, it comes with keyless entry

plus if its a new car you get a warranty anyways, 4 years/50,000 miles - longer than anything Toyota offers, and you're not stuck driving a lame ass Corolla or bloated tC

lamboceliGTS
08-02-2007, 08:46 PM
^ yea I just checked out the warranty for the powertrain it's 5 year/60,000 miles and bumper to bumper is 3 year/ 36,000 miles.

i honestly think this is the car for me. I'm most likely going to test drive one soon to see exactly how i like it. what other fees does the dealer add besides tax ? they always rape you somehow.

arite i guess i should chime in seeing that I have an early gen tC, purchased Feb. 05. Arite well, first and foremost, for the money you pay, you're getting an amazing car! It's definitely reliable and the looks are to die for (at least to me). But having said that it has its pros and cons that others haven't really mentioned.

Pros: Great value, retains value amazingly well, looks amazing, sunroof is freakn sweeet!, good gas mileage, split recline-able rear seats ;], Fold down rear seats, surprisingly spacious (i moved alot of shiet into my apartment by myself with my tC), projector headlights (in '08), really good college car, standard side airbags, a lot of after market parts and support, it CAN handle REALLY well with the right mods, ditto with power, radio door to protect a fancy HU or navi unit from being seen (def a plus if you live in a shady area), great support from the Scion community (they throw us parties for owners all out of Scion's pocket)

Cons: Rattling in the little things (at least in earlier models) but those are generally easy to fix with DIYs, looks like a 4x4 w/o a descent drop, new tail lights look like ass! (in my opinion, sorry haha), Scion's paint isn't exactly bullet proof (gotta cut cost somewhere i suppose), also there are ALOT of them on the road (at least in so-cal), and the seats are kinda wide (but then again i'm a skinny little asian kid lol).

Yea that kind of breaks it down for you, at least in my eyes, personally I love my tC, the pros def outweight the cons, and the only reason I'd ever get a new car would be if I were upgrading to a Lexus =D Hope this helps your decision!

I'd say no on the tC. Just save up some money and fix the bad synchro why buy a new car when the celica still runs. MY celi is around the same age as yours and still runs. I even had 4 accidents in this car (2 that were really bad and costly) and the car is still going. Thats my 2 cents.

when you configure mazda3 to be comparable with tC,
price is about the same.
Mazda3 S Sport w/ moonroof, side airbags will cost $18,920
and tC for about $18,270. These are only MSRP.
So put nego. with mazda into your consideration too.
I test drove both cars and I liked tC more. just my $.02

lamboceliGTS
08-03-2007, 02:48 PM
the Mazda3 i want is just the base i sport, no sunroof or anything fancy and it's msrp is $15,390, the scion is also just the base one nothing extra, and thats $18,420. plus mazda has a better warrenty.

but i'd really have to test drive both cars to see exactly what i like about them both. i'm really just sick of manual transmission, soon i'll have to do a lot of city driving in buffalo and it sucks.

my g/f has a tC and i havent got to drive it yet. but i do like the moonroof glass, interior (gauges and center consol), and the tc rims look nice, i really havent seen an 08 up close yet.

the mazda3 i only have seen pics but i like the lights, the idea of a 4door more room, guages and center consol. until i drive either i cant really say how they perform, but cant wait to find out.

i had a 6spd gt-s for about 7 months. i loved it in every way, but i ran into some financial problems, so i had to sell it. now that i got a decent paying job, i bought a 2007 tc in flint mica about 3 weeks ago.

cliff notes:

stock celica > stock tc
(done right) turbo tc > turbo celica

yes, the tc weighs about 400lbs more than the celica, but it's got a low compression, oversquare 4cyl engine with decent displacement. MEANING, great for boost, good gas mileage, and you don't have to wait til 5k rpms for a decent torque curve.

here are some pics of my tc for color reference:

btw if you were wondering, my current mods are tein ss-p coilovers, trd rear sway bar, stoptech slotted rotors, axxis ult pads, HIDs, Eclipse 7" touchscreen w/ navi and ipod, 15% tint, s2000 antenna (of course) and 5zigen 17x8 FN01R-C's in bronze + kumho ecsta asx's 235/40/17 (being installed this tuesday! :))

i hope this helps

sorry, i should say it's cheaper to get a tc to hit 300whp with good torque to back it up than it is to get a celica to hit the same numbers. done right regardless of price, you're right, celica wins.

I like both cars. I currently own an '01 Celi. The TC has looks and since it replaced the celica I went to the dealer to test drive it. The car is comfortable and nice. The only complain I have about it is that it has a slow take off compared to my GT (my cars stock). Other then that it's a nice upgrade from a Celi but I doubt I'll ever trade in my Celi for a TC, I'd go with the '05 Celi before I'd do that. I test drove the '07, I gotta go check out the '08 sometime soon. Just my opinion.

I have a 03 celica and my wife has a 06 mazda3. The 3 isnt that bad at all. Its a smoother ride. She has the mazda3s. Got everything on the damn thing leather heated seats, nav etc, took us for only 20k. Figured that wasnt too bad for a sporty, yet family car. Its a lil wierd driving it after the celica tho. Seats arent as confortable. But I do recommended the 3. You can get it cheap and maintenance is normal, not to spendy.
