View Full Version : Dangers of installing a CAI

Hi guys, i was wondering if is there is a danger of getting dust inside the engine, using a CAI. Is Injen's filter as efficient as the stock one? will it void the warranty?

What happens when it's raining or when you wash the car?
Can you get a water shield for Injen?

Finally can you still have the B-valve removed while using Injen CAI?

thanks

A) Probably more efficient (warranty is debatable)

B) Depends where you put it. if in a place water can get sucked in it will (a very bad thing). I believe someone does make a valve that stops this from happening. Now some will say it will never happen but it only takes once!

C) Yes! (he say's laughing)

Hey guys what is so funny? I thought that installing a CAI means taking the stock airbo out together with the B-Valve.

I think it is AEM that makes that valve to prevent water getting in but I don't know extactly what model it is. Will it fit Injen or Powerhouse CAI?

The AEM bypass valve won't work with any CAI's made for the Celica. It basically relies on gravity to keep the water from rising up the CAI, but it needs a long section of straight vertical pipe to work, which we don't have.

When you install the cone filter, you spray it with some oil that will trap all the dust that is sucked into the CAI. Companies even claim that a dirty filter performs better than a clean one. Go figure.

As for sucking up water, don't worry about it. Small amounts of water (like driving through a storm or shallow puddle) won't hurt the engine at all. The only way water will cause damage is if you drive into a puddle deep enough to cover your fog lights (around 1 ft). You'll notice the puddle way before you hit it, and the road may even be blocked off from traffic due to the flooding.

And yes, the butterfly valve comes out with the stock airbox. :) Nothing is left in except the throttle body.

Are you the same Dimitri as on the MR2 forums???

Kinda off topic I know, but I'm curious :D

this should really be in newbie forum ... any topic that comes up with 300+ responses when you do a search has probably been covered in every detail and unless you've read every one of those chances are your post belongs in newbie forum.

so how about them yankees?

Actually the more apropriate q would be "How about them LAKERS!!!?!?" :D

Thanks blue bomber.
MR2 quick that is right I used to write in spyderchat some time ago.
I don't have a celica yet cause I am inbetween the celica ,mr-2 or the civic type-r. It's such a hard choice.

What do u guys think?

From an autocrosssers view... Either of the Toyotas are great cars (but get the GT not GT-S). If you ever plan to take ANYTHING other then yourself and one passenger on a trip stay away from the MR-S

I can fit 8 tires in my Celica and still have room for a passenger.

Thanks guys your opinion is mostly appreciated. Why the celica gt and not the gt-s? Besides the gt-s comes with 192bhp stock in Europe. 52 more ponnies than the gt.

I've heard some guys saying they've done an 0-60 run in 6 point something seconds. if that is the case then the mr-2 is faster than the gt-s.

The MR2S is an awesome car and corners sweet. It's basically set up for cornering. As for the GT-s in Auto-Xing, the VVTL-i kicks in in the end of the gear and wouldnt really do much of anything for you, except on a straight-away.

In my opinion, a Celica GT-s would be good. You could even go with the MKii MR2 (like mine) and spend the extra $$ you save for suspension mods......This is assuming you will AutoX with it.

For standard driving (on the street with a little fun off), I would go with the Celica GT-S or MR2S. That tie breaker would be determined by the passenger room that you want. The MR2S has $hit for room. and the Celica, you could almost live in it. If you did get the MR2S, hold out until next year when they do make the Turbo model (I think that's when it's coming out). Or buy a Celcia now and trade itin later if you still want to :D

Thanks for the info. I am basically interested more in street racing rather than making long distance trips. I think the gt-s is a bit faster than the mr2s in a straight line.

Toyota will make a turbo mr2s? That is excellent! where did u get the info?

If they make a turbo mrs I might need to kiss my celica goodbye. But, I don't believe it :)

If a turbo version of the MR2S comes out.. Bye bye Celica.
