car painting is much different from any other form of painting, have you ever done painting with a spray gun (NOT a spraycan) and compressor before? few tips:

1. make sure everything is sanded perfectly smooth. the layer of paint is too thin to cover up any blemishes or cracks or holes in the paint, if you spray over a hairline crack it will end up turning into a valley etc etc...make sure its perfectly smooth.
2. (obviously) make sure you use auto paint and invest in good tools. auto paint starts to get expensive (with all the additions u have to buy like clear base and hardener and reducers). if you're just going to do one or two parts it's probably better to just get a shop to do it and have them do a good job. i ended up spending more by painting it myself then i would have if i sent it to a shop (i only needed two bumpers done)

1Qt of paint and 1Qt of clear W/reducers and hardner. Was 278.00 for my car (Glasurit) SP? You'll still need primer, sandpaper, tape and paper. Cheap crap don't cut it either.
If you make a mess out of it any shop around will charge you at least double to straighten it out.
It's only cheaper to fix your own car if you do it for a living or fix a lot of cars on the side. That way you have materials left over from each job.

I agree. If you do this with no prior experience it will most likely look worse than it does now. Save your money and let a body shop do the work...you will be glad in the end. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Start small, practice on engine plastics or your center console. Painting isnt hard once you get the hang of it.

What do you need for the paint job?
1. Masking tape
2. Primer
3. Paint, Clear coat
4. 320, 600, 1000 sand paper
5. Tack cloth

- Prepare is very important for the paint job, you need to sand everything down ( chips, defect .... ) by 320 until they are all smooth.
- Then spray primer on the surface, spray some more on the surface which got chips and defect. Sand it down with 320. Inspect, spray more primer if needed. Sand down with 600 for final.
- Clean the surface with Final Clean, and use Tack cloth to make sure no dirt and contamination on surface.
- Start paint, low air. I usually do 4 coat ( thin ) on my paint, but it all depend on ur color and the primer color. ( If you painting on silver, u must blending through the fender and bumper because silver never match, but i recommend you to do it )
- Clear coat.
- After 2 weeks, wet sand

Hope this help.
