I have an auto gts. From stop, is it bad to put your left foot on the break, rev up to 2k rpm's or so with the right on the gas, and when it turns green, let of the break and slam the gas? I have a trd exhaust, will i be able to beat an 5spd gt off the line if i do that?

sorry to say, but the auto GTS might be able to beat a auto DX off the line, but not much more than that. In the Auto do not race from a stop dude... you will get raped... i had a auto GTS before i got the MR2 and it can't even keep up with an 88 crx manual off the line. I guess the best way to "launch" would be to torque brake... don't plan on beating much off the line tho.

I have an Auto GT with Dual 5Zigen Fireball Exhausts, Straight Pipe, AEM Pulleys, Hotshot Headers, and a Carbon Fiber Rear GT Spoiler. I don't Zip off the line but, I can catch up. I raced an Integra and a 6th Gen Celica at the same time both sticks and they got me at the line. I shifter my Auto manually with the Overdrive off... I started in L revved to about 3000 break on one gas on other then floored it as I took my foot off. They were about a car length ahead of me when I pushed to Gears into 2. I started gaining ground. As a hit 7000rpm I hit D but heres a trick. With the OD Off... When you hit about 3200 the car gets dirt slow so what I did was took my foot of the gas then punched it. My car took a dive foward I caught up and beat them by about 2/3 of a car length.

It works it really does! You can race an Auto just got practice launching in Higher gears you'll get raped at first just gotta be smart later on.

is it really bad for the transmission when you launch like that or any other negative things?

revving while holding down the brakes is just called powerbraking and isn't THAT bad. just don't hold it for too long. if you just rev up and instantly drop it (harder to time cuz usually people sit there holding the revs), then i doubt it'd put any strain on the transmission. not even your brakes.

do NOT sit there powerbraking to over 1800rpms, cuz then there's actual power hitting the wheels which are being held down. when you do it for a split second before you drop the brake, it won't be much effect, but if you don't, you're putting down actual power/torque (which is made at 1800+ rpm) to the wheels which are held down, so that energy doesn't dissipate, it goes right back up the drivetrain.

you can't powerbrake over 2000rpm on either auto GT or auto GTS, i dunno what dark star's talking about. just shift it manually (L->2->D) just into redline. taking foot off gas and punching it might feel faster, but think about it, it'll only slow you down. keeping the throttle open is one of the few advantages of the auto.

Here are my "races" before i got the MR2. BTW i had the TRD Exhaust for ALL of these races...

1990 Celebrity Wagon 3.1l v6 - lost
1988 Civic CRX stock 300k miles 92hp - lost
1996 Auto Mustang GT - raped really bad
1994 Grand Am GT - lost
2000 Accord v6 - lost
2000 Celica GT manual - lost
1998 Toyota Avalon XLE - lost
1991 Mustang 5.0 - raped so horribly bad it hurt for days afterward
1991 MR2 Turbo Stock (at the time I was driving, ex-gf was driving GTS) - put 10 cars on it by 60
1990 Pontiac Bonneville v6 - lost
1996 Eagle Talon Tsi - so very bad...
the list probably goes on, i cant think of anymore...
1993 Eclipse RS - a win! woohoo

As you can see, i was pretty excited to get the MR2 considering i can laugh at every car on here now...
