I am thinking about buying a CAI AEM and a water filter or air filter whatever its called for my 2002 GTS. Now i heard that if water goes up into your engine your screwed! Well i need to know if the AEM water bypass valve works because i diffently want to upgrade my intake. Anyone know
oh yeah i need some suggestion on what color intake for a white car, blue silver or red . i was thinking red or blue.
please give me some comments!!!

The valve works fine. There was an artical in Sport Compact Car a while back on it and it seemed to prove its worth. If you dont drive through deep puddles all the time then I wouldn't worry about it though. I like red on the white cars , it just looks nice!

honestly unless you drive into water high enough to submerge the inlet filter you will be fine. Ive had filter exposed now for a while and im constanly driving in the rain with no problems. So having it not exposed should yeild no worries. BTW miine is exposed because im still waiting on a left front wheel well from my dealer. My original one got torn off when i hit a rabbit the size of a baby kangaroo.

But would it hurt the performance if i were to buy the bypass valve? money is not a issue if its 50 bucks . its better to be safe than sorry

always better to be safe than sorry!! And the bypass valve won't hurt performance on a scale that you would notice. I would have gotten one on mine, but i got my AEM during the recall they had on the valve.**thinks about the good old days of NC.org** anyway just get it and be happy:)

The bypass valve is useless on our car. It only works on longer CAIs that have vertical piping to slow the water down.

yup what blue blomber said... it doesnt work on our cars... the only reason i still dont have a CAI is cause the dealership gives me enough headaches about doing repairs. Can't imagine what they'd say if i put it in.

I thought that when they did the recall they fixed the problem. Im sure i remember reading in SCC that it work. Im going to go look at some of the old mags i have stashed

i think they were speaking too generally to include the celica when they said in SCC that it works.. but check anyway it'd be a nice little surprise...

go to www.aempower.com
and look at the applications list. You'll notice VERY plainly that you CAN get the AEM CAI for our cars, you'll also notice VERY plainly that they don't have a check in the box for a bvpass valve for our cars.
http://www.aempower.com/application/induction_application.htm
SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE HERE AND NOTICE THE N/A in the column for bypass valve for our car.

With the old design, the rubber flaps may either be sucked into the engine, or they may get stuck in the throttle body, keeping the throttle open.

WTF are you talking about? Your posts are some of the most confusing I've ever read on this board.

He probably means the MAFS. It doesn't cost $1000, though.

OK, I was bored, so I looked up the price for the MAFS. It's only $110.69 at Partznet.com (retails for $147.59).

I don't believe any of the sensors cost that much money, and the MAFS sensor is the only one you'd have to worry about. I know some people were getting a CEL (check engine light) due to the MAFS not being tightened down correctly. I've had my CAI for about a year and a half I think, and I haven't had any problems with it. I did recently purchase the filter cleaner kit to clean and re-oil it next weekend, just to keep up to date on it. The only problem I've had is that the rubber piece that connects the CAI tubing to the engine is cracking where it's tightened down. I'm not sure if this is a big problem yet, but I'm trying to keep an eye on it.
Unless you think there's a chance you'll drive though a puddle about a foot deep, you shouldn't have to worry about sucking in any water. If you're afraid of water getting in through the holes in the wheel well cover, you could always cover the holes up from both sides to prevent that. I haven't covered them, and have had no problems, including driving in heavy rain. If it rains a lot where you are, or there's a good chance of flooding, perhaps getting a regular intake would be better, since it's seated in front of the engine. If it sucks in water there, it'll be the least of your problems, and they still produce decent numbers, although I heard that the sound isn't quite as incredible.
