i have a punch 400a4 powering two mbquart component speakers. i want to buy my boss' 600watt mono amp and his kicker 10" solobaric but i don't know if i'll have problems with my alternator recharging. can i do this or do i need a capacitor. thanks.

shouldn't be any problem. thats still only 1000 watts and probably max watts not rms right. you really really shouldn't have any problems, but if you do you could do a few things.

get a batcap. www.batcap.net thats good for taking a load off your elec. system, supposedly much more than a cap, but i don't know how good it is.

a cap works good and you can do a 1 farad for a hundred or so, i'd really reccomend trying to get an alumapro cap off ebay. they have 5 farad ones for a few hundred and they're real good.

I would recommend getting at least a 1 farad cap. you should be alright with that. You can never go wrong with getting a cap. It will sure take some load off your alt. It wouldn't hurt to install one. Just my two cents

with batcap and the alumapro caps, you may want to stay away. their ESR is higher, meaning their internal resistance is higher, so they're slower to send power to the amps (their whole purpose). although the batcap isn't as bad, i'm still skeptical of it. seems too good to be true.
