So My brother works at best buy and I'm missing the system I sold with my celi, and looking to upgrade now that I have a good paying job
Wanted to get some input as far as which way to go:
Main considerable options:
2x 12" Alpine type R's vs 2x 12" Fosgate P3's
Subs - leaning towards the type R's, I'm a alpine fan
Amps (don't know a lot about them):
1x fosgate punch p-1000 ( i belive these are the codes)
1x Alpine V mono class D m-850
1x kenwood (i know its like 1800w max)
Theres also the option to go with two smaller amps, but i dont know if it is a very good one.
Can I also get a .02 on: using a capacitor with this set up? if sub box quality makes a great difference or would the standard Q-logic box be fine?

If you plan on running 2 Type-R's. I would definitely get a 1farad or greater capacitor....

the rockfords will last alot longer....they have subs and amps that are up to 10 yrs old and still work awesome. i personally think they make better quality subs and amps than alpine, how ever Im not a fan of their highs. i wouldn't buy from best buy though, thats just me

The Type-R's will handle a lot of watts, but the Rockfords will likely be as loud. Its up to you, depending on what you like in terms of looks and SQ. And as for getting a cap, save your money and upgrade the alternator instead.

I am running an all Alpine Type R set up. Components up front, 5 1/2 in mid and one Type R 10. 4 way Alpine for the Highs and Mids, and a Alpine mono for the 10. Got a Fosgate 1 farad cap and an Optima yellow top battery. System is so clear and crisp. Pics in profile.

the only thing wrong with buying from bestbuy is there prices.. dont let them install anything cuz they dont know what they are doing.. but if its the only place to get stuff locally its not like they sell ****ty stuff. i mean they might but just cuz its best buy doesnt mean its bad quality. just prices.

Its the best prices around if you are an employe, my brother works in the install bay, he can get an entire set up for $500 (amp, 2subs, wiring kit and box). As for the insalation, I will be helping him, I've done several my self, but have no idea how to wire it out of a stock head unit.

if u are sticking with a stock h/u u will need a rca converter for the amp and thats all...you would just splice it off a back speaker.
wouldnt switching to an aftermarket headunit deliver a much cleaner sound? Thats what Ive always been told

yea but it not sound much better unless a 4 channel amp and new speakers are installed.

An aftermarket head will make a huge difference, whether youre using the stock speakers or upgrading. Youll also get much cleaner sound using dedicated sub pre-outs vs a line level converter ("RCA converter"). DEFINATELY get a new head, dont even think about using the stock one.
And as for them having the best prices, and being able to put together a system for $500... I can put together a system with ten subs and ten amps, a deck, five caps, etc etc for $100 if I wanted to, doesnt mean itll sound good. Cheap or not, you get what you pay for, 99% of the time when it comes to car audio.

i can tell yuo from experience.. dont ever just get a system cuz of the price.
But yes deff get an aftermarket headunit, it will sound so much better than stock headunit.

well if someone could please inform me on how im going to fit a aftermarket headunit into my dash, I would love to know!!! I really dont think it will sound too much better, only have a slight power increase maybe.
As for the head unit now, I'm not too farmiliar with, but ar you sure i will need a rca converter, my car already has a stock sub, I was just going to take the wiring from that and it also has a sub control

that is the dash, current head unit 100% built in and shares A/c controls...
new head unit not happening unless i put it in the glove box

well go to a car audio place or find an acura forum and ask there.

What model is it? www.crutchfield.com I think it is has a little selector where you fill in your model and year, and it shows you the parts youll need to make the head fit. But to be honest, this is a Celica forum, so dont expect much in the way of help as to making a new deck fit, because most of us only know about Celica's.

I dont need help making it fit, I know what it would take (a couple hundered for a custom dash + the head unit, not worth it) but people started telling me to go that way... bottom line, I just wanted to get some ideas for a good set up (and I like the celi forum a lot more than the acura)!
Also working at bestbuy, here's what i bought.
2 type r's (12's). Get the f'ing service plan on them, especially if he works there. Not only is it cheaper but if you have any problems at all (actually, you don't need to have problems) they will replace it on the spot for 4 years. I do it every 6 months, honestly for the hell of it (but last time there was an issue w/ the surround)
I also originally bought the kenwood amp, and it does not operate properly in a 1 ohm configuration. It will shut down and blow fuses like crazy (unless you up the 2 on the amp, but it will still go into protection) I had it done with 4awg power/ground and it never went more then 20 seconds with the bass turned up.
The Rockford one isn't bad. Don't run into the power issues it's just not exactly clean.
So what i bought, was an autotek 1400.1 MM amp (people have it doing 1500+ daily). Type r's can handle 700w daily (have for almost a year now) and i bought the amp for 200$ shipped.
Or, ask him to get some information on the car audio accommodation's. You'll probably be happier with some of those ;)
Oh, and as for the capacitor thing, dont get one. Instead upgrade you battery to atleast an optima yellow top and do the big 3 upgrade. That's what i'm using with my setup and with no cap i get hardly any dimming at all.

what's wrong with the capacitor?
There's nothing really wrong with it, but it doesnt actually fix the problem like a battery would. A capacitor from best buy (even with our discount) w/ the digital readout is actually more expensive then i paid for my Yellow top battery. When he's getting into amps that can draw 100+amps of power constantly, a cap is only going to do so much.
He would be better off with the battery first, and if he want's more (4 channel amp or whatever) a HO Alternator. Plus, he'll get the added benefits of a "deep cycle" battery (eaiser cold starts, listen to it longer w/ car off)
