Hm, so lately my budget has been tight just affording this mustang. I'm starting college, and less hours at work. Soooo.....I'm not going to be able to afford this car and do anything else. So I'm trading it in for cheaper car on gas/insurance, and in some later time, find a full time job and move onto a fast car.
Hopefully between 8k-9k. Only things I can think of are 95-01 Honda civic si's, 02-04 honda civic si's, and even a celica gts. Also wanting the car to shift very smooth, and easy. And I've heard the hondas are pretty good at that.
Would just like to see anybody's opinions or suggestions. :gap:

Alright you dont wanna spend money on a nice car or modding etc cause your in college. So if you truly wont mod a car, I actually suggest leasing one of those new 4 door civics. Once your done with college you can just hand it back with no problems or buy it out for pretty damn cheap... they are a civic of course ;).
My daily driver is a 4-door 07' civic lx. I leased it for $3,000.00 down and 150 bucks a month and I can do 12k mileage a year. So in the end when the lease is up after 3 years I will have spent 8,400.00 on the car total. And the buy out on the lease if I really want to keep the car after my 3 years are up is 11 grand. Which if you look at it 11+8.4, comes to 19.4g's which if I were to buy it out, I would only lose 400 bucks on the deal of buying the car instead of leasing since the final pricing of my civic came to 19k.

Hm, yeah that's a good option. But I was aiming for something that might still have a little pep/fun. If I did get a car that'll have cheap payments, I'd have alot more money to mod it.
I was reading about the hatchback si's.........and came across something saying their i-vtec isnt made for performance, but for fuel economy. That's weird.

That version of the k20 was meant for economy and better torque. Aren't they still a bit pricey? I was searching and some came out to 13g.
How are the ricers in your area of Texas? Your choices for Hondas are very nice targets for theft in California. Although, they are nice choices. Face it, you'll modify it sooner or later.
You could always get an SRT-4 with the handcrank rear windows. :chuckles:
Scratch that, they're still selling for a high price.

Hm, yah I'm seeing alot of civic si's for 8k-10k, as well as some integra gsr's. And I think the srt-4 is still going for 12-14k at the cheapest.
Hah as for texas ricers, it's basically any car teenager can afford. And if they can afford more, they're buying v8 trucks and diesels. :chuckles:

High mile rust-free Civic hatch + GSR swap + 1k turbo kit ftw.

correct - iVTEC on the 160 hp K20 is for fuel economy and optimized, flat torque - there is no variable valve lift, just variable valve timing - those cars are slow as dirt
High mile rust-free Civic hatch + GSR swap + 1k turbo kit ftw.
We have a winner.
I wouldn't even add the turbo kit - Like I've said a million times before - my GSR swapped EG Coupe is faster than my Z4 in a straight line.
Performance through light weight.
I might also suggest . . . . .
A Miata.
My friend in Texas has a supercharged Miata and he loves it to death. Never worry about snow, so you can drive all year with the top down. You can get a nice old Miata for about $3000 and supercharge it or turbocharge it for dirt cheap (just make sure you have the 1.6L if you turbocharge, 1.8L for supercharger).

He'll be daily driving the thing. Built nitrous motor FTW. NA off the bottle for everyday driving is the way to go, you'll still see amazing MPG. It'll also save you a ton of money in gas too versus driving around in a turbo'd car and a lead foot.

I'm sure some people here will be very pleased to see you get a Celica :chuckles:
The only drawback to the Miata is its lack of space and maybe you don't want a 2-seater. I'd also suggest a Civic.

Stock GSR hatch will be faster then his stang, I guess bolt ons would be a decent compromise through college. :gap:

I talked to my parents, and they said they'll pay for some of the car as long as I'm in college. So yah, I'm thinking 99-00 Mustang GT.
chances are, insurance will be about the same compared to 04 v6, gas.....maybe a bit worse. And car payments alot cheaper. I really enjoy having a car with torque and rwd.....but I could rock a GSR.

The difference in insurance will be more then a little. At minimum it will probably go up by $50 a month. Why do you want another stang though...

Eh, great car, but I got to drive one. I just hate the way the car feels. Just feels like a giant beast. And the dash was way too big, while the window was too small and angled. But was crazy fast.
I've driven few stangs, loved 'em all.
EDIT:Just got quote on a 99 GSR........it cost more than a 99 GT......I hope that's just an error or something.

**NVM to this part, I misinterpreted your post the first time I read it.**
Probably not a mistake, more likely to get stolen. Do a quote on a 93 Civic hatch, I'm sure that will be dirt cheap. If you get a GSR swapped one it will still be registered with whatever the stock engine is. My subie is registered as a 1.8L NA 4dr. Insurance is the same price as the horrid camry I used to have to drive. :gap:

Yeah, I'm defiantly keeping that in mind. My friend's brother could swap in a GSR engine with ease..he's built like 4-5 honda's I think. He said he had one that could keep up with a KB Cobra..........I'm not so sure about the truth of that one, but he knows alot nonetheless.

A GSR hatch with GSR tranny and bolt ons is normally low 14's 97-98 traps mostly...I've seen a few clip high 13's, but that's not normally what I've seen...Throw a type R or b16 transmission on it, that car is in the 13's with a good driver. My friends latest white GSR hatch dynoed 171 whp after some street tuning and bolt ons...Ran a best of 14.2 at 98 if I'm not mistaken

No it's certainly not an error....When the car is stolen so often, insurance rates will go up...You're a high risk driver because of how often the car ends up stolen

Depends on the cams...CTR's are nice and after tuning I've seen nice increases in midrange and more peak power. It's possible to see 180-185whp after tuning on a b18c with CTRs and bolt ons..Peak numbers don't sky rocket but the midrange and top end you pick up are VERY good increases..Especially for the price. This is all assuming STOCK bottom end and no head work. Just CTR cams dropped in and tuned

I'm assuming you're gettin it in manual transmission right? If not then :puke: to automatics.
Having a V8 mated to an auto tranny is the worst. Both of my parents luxary Mercedes Benz V8 powered vehicles feel slower than my car when it had a CAI, and wayyyy slower than my friend's new 6 speed 3.5 Liter Altima Sedan :hitit: his car is a totalll sleeper. CTR cams are stock Honda cams though..Keep that in mind...They are 00-01 ITR cams...Aftermarket cams open a whole new playing field...Using nothing but stock Honda parts you can put a b18c in the 180+ whp range...and gearing opens a new door...I can give testament to that...

Depends on what you're trying to do...You want big power for little money...b series...But if you looking to just run 13's and call it a night...H22 drop in will put you there...It costs more money to mod the h22...But if done right, it can be dangerous...

gearing makes a huge difference
for instance, if you do a mini-me swap on a 1.5L you're probably low 16s high 15s - if you go for EX gearing, you knock another full second off your time
I have the b16 gears in my b18 coupe and I can attest - the car has some good pickup

well SOME people on this site (who will go unnamed) refuse to believe a Civic can run 13s with a B-series swap. I will say it again and again - Nina's Civic is faster in a straight line than my Z4, and is definitely in the 13s from the butt dyno

A miata isn't pratical for a college student. There might be things that need hauling and the miata doesn't have enough trunk space or seats for that matter.
As for the 00-01 Civic Si, if it's cheap enough. It's decent. I had one before in college and it was good on gas and space. Low maintenance and reliable. No modding neccessary. Just drive it as is. Good luck finding one that's still stock.
