I bought my car couple week ago... and they filled the gas.. but not sure which octane did they put....
I've been driving nicely till now... just red line couple time..
Rarely pushing the car..
But what I've notice is that when I past 7k rpm... it feels like the engine is choking... like when it's redlining.. but it keeps on climing.... it does that on 1st gear.. but not from 2nd and up..
Is it just me or... lower ocatane cause that??
Why does it do only on 1st gear..??
Or.. do I need to break it in more?? it's 600 miles as of now...

I still have dealer gas... they filled the tank again....
It's my 2nd tank of gas... when this runs out I'm always gona use preminum gas.. but I'm not sure.... give me some infos...

Octane makes a BIG difference. My vvtl-i felt like it was never engaging until I ran premium only, and not mix.

Just a little advice I had to find out the hard way.

You should always fill it up with premium. As for the lift thing I'm not sure. I know the lower octane will make the engine knock and you can hear it.

Are you flooring it when your in lift?

Yea I flooooooored it....
Just on the 1st gear... right after it past 7k.... it chokes(slightly) couple times... and it goes upto 7800.....
Maybe it's just me..... I'm trying to break in the engine so I dont redline it much.. so later I'll try it again.....
I have no ideal.. what the dealer put in.. friend who works there said they put premium.. but can't trust them......
Well.. I guess all I can do is.. wait till I use up all this gas and start putting preminum.. and see if that makes it different...
3/4 tank to go..... ^^
Thanks....

If you floored it then it should go up like you just lit a fire cracker under someone's ass. That's how smooth and fast it should be. There shouldn't be any hesitation.

Doooly, stop being a cheap a$$ and use premium...hehehe:chuckles:

Okay my first recommendation would be to stop beating the piss out of your brand new car. I definitely wouldnt be running a car with under 600 miles to 7k rpm, nevermind redlining it.

I'm not being cheap.. I'll always use premium.... the dealer just fill the tank so.. just waiting till just run that out first..... ^^

humm...i dunno if the dealer used Premium to fill your tank..but if it messes up then, you get to screw the dealer...:AF:

You should not be anywhere near 7000 rpm in a car that's a few weeks old. Keep it under 4k.

Oh c'mon, a lot of people do that in their cars, and when I bought my car no one told me anything about breaking the engine in. In fact, when I test drove the car, they allowed me to floor it as much as I wanted. That whole breaking in theory is great and all, but not really proven.

Vroom_Vroom
06-03-2002, 10:32 PM
well yea i guess thats true also but theres always that "what if" factor..just like if you red lined your car for the first 5 miles or couple hundred miles ...and when you have 30k miles all of a sudden you wonder "what if i did break it in for the first 1000 miles!?" would it be faster!? would it last longer!? its just being safe...its like wearing a condom when you do it... if you dont you have that "what if question" so do you get my drift.!?

mabey the dealer allowed you to floor it because that salesperson isnt going to buy that car, all that matters to him/her is that they want to sell the car..flooring a car feels good and makes the driver feel the excitement making him/her wanting to buy the car more...mabey you should ask yourself "what if i didnt floor it when i first got it!? would it be faster!?" now youll never know...like i said earlier breaking it in for atleast 1000miles (i plan on atleast 1500 mile break in) is a safe way and so those damn "what if" thoughts stay out of your head..

Break in periods are really not needed anymore in todays new cars. These engines are all tested already and probably doing that break in might at a couple thousand miles to the total longevity of the engine... not really worth it in my opinion.

LEDmod

Yea.. I've heard alot about new cars doesn't require breakin period.. but it's just my self want it for own self assurance..... ^^
I've just met someone with fixed up Celica... talked for while about the Celica...
I really need to start modifing... I love the sounds..

Dooly,

You should break it in until you hit at least 1500 miles... i didn't really rev it until i had 2000miles on mine...it took me 3days to get 2000miles tho.....ehhehhehehe i think breakin in proper is worth it.

Well,
Unless it is specifically stated that the engine if factory broken in (like my friend's ford contour) IT'S NOT!!! :nono: Sure, they do some form of bench testing on every engine, but this is not breaking it in. Part of the break in has to do with the thermal cycling of the gaskets, not necessarily the engine. Baby it till 1000 is a safe bet every time. After that, "Beat it" as my mechanis puts it. Well, maybe not beat it, but you shouldn't be afraid to really run the car. Chances are if there is a factory defect, it will show up fast. Redline at 600 miles, shame on you!!

lol Dooly, don't be complaining now if something bad happens to your GT-S in the long run. We all hear that it is not necessary to break in an engine, but we also hear that it is good to wait atleast 1000 miles to redline. I suggest you take it to the safe side and wait til atleast 1000-1500....it doesnt hurt to be patient.

Sorry anyways..

Here is the deal now...
I've just fill the whole tank with premium 91 ocatane gas...
While I was comming home I redlined it again.. it doesn't the same thing..
After 7400 rpm... it feels like redlineing but it keeps on climbing to 7800rpm(rev limit)...
It's like very slight choking kind of feeling... but it keeps on going up till rev limit....
I don't think the fuel is the problem.. anyone have any ideals??

you can all ways check, and make sure no vacume hoses are disconnected. just a guess...

Possible bad fuel from the dealer(water in the gas) and it may still be in it. Drive til your at 1-2 bars then refill. Do you have 93 octane? if not, throw a little octane boost in your tank when its full and see if that corrects the problem.

I've drove around today till no bar shows... (drained out most of the dealer gas)... and fill the whole tank with 91 octane...
So fuel shoudn't be a problem..
The car is brand like 2 week old... it should run fine with just 91 octane.. if it is normal... but not sure...

It almost sounds like your lift is not engaging and your running out on the lower cam. Are you feeling a noticible surge in power at approx. 6K?

dooly? i just got my car back yesterday, what time are you doing to the speedway on fri? try to get there early as midnight mayheim has been getting extrememly popular and they are limiting cars, one of the last events we went to there was about 250 cars or so from what i'm told. I haven't decided if i'm going to run yet, i know my car is slow but i think it would be fun to see what kind of times it puts down, but i'll be there. We'll have to get in touch or something as I will have my video camera and can tape your runs if you'd like. PM me and i'll hook you up with my cell number if you want.

I do feel the lift... but while it's climbing up.. it's feels like hesitating... slightly... it doesn't go up smooth....
There is lift I can really feel it.. and it does go up all the way to red line.... it just feels weirld... it's like short on air or somthing....

I have no idea, take it to your friendly dealer. You might want to get a local fellow GT-S person to ride with you first and see if they notice a problem.
