I'm starting to look at body kits and whatnot. I have a few questions. First, what is the difference between a front lip and a front bumper? Will I be able to put it on myself? Keep in mind, I'm new to this. I am blessed with common sense though, so I can usually figure things out. Also, are the ebay kits worth it? Or are they going to not fit or fall apart? I'm trying not to spend a ton of money on this, but I want it to look good and last. Any help is appreciated.

The lip is just the bottom piece that u can fit it to a stock bumber, so a front bumper is the whole thing including the lip. I think most of them require some drilling to fit, not sure how many r bolt on. Ebay kits will fit if u take them to a bodyshop and pay money to modify it to fit. Better off just to get a authentic kit. From what i heard Jintei's replica kits are fitting really well and he has many kits to choose & mix match but not sure if he still making them though. Then u also has to paint them too so its not something that can be fit, look good, lasting and cheap. Your best bet is to get them used in the for sale from members here if it match ur color. Hope this help.

this is another, "you get what you pay for" scenario
if you buy something brand new and its cheap
there's a reason for it
my first body kit was dirt cheap and it ended up not fit
so i spent MORE money having it custom fitted
when i finally upgraded to my c-one body it
the front lip alone was $500 shipped just for the front
but it fit perfectly

^^^front lip
see how it fits in snuggly over your stock bumper

Like some people said, a lip kit fits over your existing stock front bumper. A bumper replaces the whole thing.

I don't think I would ever personally buy a kit from ebay, just because they are nearly all replicas, and you are taking a big gamble with them in terms of fitment and quality. If you do buy a kit off of ebay, check the feedback, and only buy authentic. As far as I know, the only person to make high quality, well fitting replica kits is Jintei.

In terms of cost, if you are really strapped for cash, your best bet is surfing the for sale forum and finding a good condition front bumper/lip in the same color as your car, so you just buy it and slap it on. If you buy a new bumper/lip, it will be much more expensive than used, and you'll have to get it painted, which will likely cost you a couple hundred dollars for a bumper.

One last thing. Since you live in Michigan, assuming the roads suck where you live too, be careful not to get a really low front bumper. I had a TRD front bumper (one of the higher aftermarket bumpers/lips) and I scraped all the time. You might want to get a urethane bumper for that reason because they tend to be more durable.

i have a question about my color. it's a really really dark blue. most of the time, you can't even tell that it is; it looks black. is this a stock color? i bought the car used, so i have no idea if it's been painted. i've never seen another celica with the color.
