I got this "Royal Purple Synchromax High Performance Manual Transmission Oil" from pepboys. I want to konw if its good or I have to get something else. It has no number like 80-90 or Redline 'MT90'.

Also I used Mobile 1 Synthetic Gear oil and I just drained it out today, is it ok to switch to royal purple? Here are a pic of it:

It's the right one to use, give it a try. Usualy compatable with whats left in the tranny after you drain it. You won't have any problems.

Do not use this type of gear oil,it is made only for certain types of Manual Tranneys, It says it on the bottle, and Royal Purple goes through the entire list for what Synchromax is used for on their Website.
Here is the link for what I use and you should use for your transmission:

I got it.....it's for MT cars that requires the ATF Fluid. But can I still use it or its totally no good?

All I see is for Automatic Tranneys at the top,and when you read the codes for Toyota,Dexron III is automatic tranney fluid,I have owned nothing but Toyota's my whole life,Toyota specs on are Tranneys is 75-90 Gear weight, not something that has a blend for a automatic Tranney.

I would not...
Everybody has there own opinon,I am just stating fact.

If I remember correctly, the GL-5 is hard on our synchros, GL-4 (Redline MT-90) is what you should use.

Hopefully someone else will confirm this!

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS is a supreme performance, synthetic, multi-purpose, SAE 75W-90 automotive gear lubricant designed to meet the highest level performance requirements of modern passenger vehicles in all types of operating conditions including limited slip applications, as well as, deliver outstanding power transfer performance. Compared to conventional hypoid gear lubricants, Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricants LS 75W-90 performs exceptionally over a wide range of temperatures. Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 achieves this through a unique proprietary formulation, that deliver optimized viscosity-temperature properties together with the highest level of inherent formulation stability and protects against thermal and oxidative degradation, wear and corrosion, viscosity loss associated with premature shearing. It also can be used in extended service and for aiding in fuel economy performance.

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 meets the most severe API Service MT-1 and GL-5 EP gear oil service

The SynchroMax isn't the correct fluid. The MaxGear should be OK. I heard the sulfur-phosphorous additive system in the M1 stuff can be corrosive to the bronze synchros... so getting it out of there is a good idea.

I'd avoid the GL-5's too for this reason. Regardless of brand.

[QUOTE=http://www.redlineoil.com/whitePaper/10.pdf]CORROSION PROTECTION
The extreme pressure chemistry used in many gear oils
can be corrosive to brass and bronze used in synchronizers
and bushings. Most gear oils are corrosive at
temperatures of 200

Royal Purple Max Gear is safe for GL 4/5 trannies and is non-corrosive for all gears and synchros. It also doesn't have any friction modifiers in it (used for LSDs only) that can make it more difficult to shift.

Beg to differ:
All viscosities of Max-Gear are formulated with hypoid friction modifiers necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials.

My two questions (and yes I've asked before) is how does Royal Purples Max Gear compare to Redline MT90?

A) In terms of synchro wear?
B) Performance Wise?

Personally I'd rather have one that adds more protection. I've read from other members how MT90 is the best so I've used that...

From what 2way says it has the LSD additives. In this case, does that just make it harder to shift or will it have any long term effects? Essentially I want this car to last over 300k so that's my goal. This is why I'm comparing things so hard and people go "it doesn't matter you won't notice a difference" but fact is after 100k miles you will...

Doh, I was told by someone with an MR2 that they've been using Max Gear for years without shifting issues. MR2s require GL 4/5 fluid without friction modifiers. I have Specialty Formulations MTL-R, which meets these requirements, but they've stopped production for the forseeable future. I might have to step down to MT-90 now... :(

I found this...
My vehicle's transmission specifies an API GL-4 gear oil. Can I use Max-Gear?

Yes. Max-Gear possesses both API GL-5 and GL-4 certification. Max-Gear is formulated with Royal Purple's proprietary, Synslide additive technology to provide the exceptional film strength necessary for GL-5 applications, yet it is noncorrosive to soft metals found in manual transmissions that specify a GL-4 rated lubricant.

I found this...
Yep... I didn't say RP ate synchros.... that's why I said MaxGear was OK. But, the LS additive in M1 will. That answers your 1st question.

Oh I see. So I should be fine switchin to RP Max Gear. I'll keep the MT90 in there as I just put it in like 500 miles ago. Maybe after some 30k miles I'll switch...

So I should be fine switchin to RP Max Gear.Yeah.... but why switch? You should be fine w/MT90.... maybe even better, where it doesn't have a LS additive.

Availability I guess. I'm swtiching my oil to RP so I figured going all RP (ATF for PS too) would be fun.

I guess though going all one brand isn't as ideal as it sounds for cars?

Well currently my oil is brand-less. Just got car used and I haven't chose an oil to stick to yet.
