View Full Version : Does the public hate Celicas?

In a discussion about '02 Se-r's blk00ss says that his Celica has been vandalized in 3 states. His unsurance company says the Celica is the most vandalized car in the US. Any comments about this? I ask because last weekend I came around an intersection corner, about 20mph, to find a drunk idiot in front of me. Me and the ABS did a good job; if I was in my pickup the guy would be flat. I took off, admittedly revving it out as I thought "that idiot's dad is surely a lawyerand I almost lost some major time and $$ there". Well, then at about 1 am all the rednecks showed up in my driveway, think lifted big block pick-up. THEY HAD HUNTED DOOR TO DOOR AND FOUND ME!
Of course, it wasn't the near incident that bugged them. It was the fact that they were all drunk and I think the 8000 rpm exit really got to 'em. What is worse is that after I chased 'em off and went to their party (OK: now you KNOW I'm a redneck!!) they said they didn't know me, but if I had torn off in my Dodge Challenger, they wouldn't have chased me down, they would'a liked it actually, but that "super fast cah" really bothered them. If I was asleep I would'a awoke to vandalism on the car in my opinion. DOes the shape of this car just fill people with angst??!

I don't know if people hate us or anything, I just know sometimes I getlooks for doing nothing. I'll be driving along, especially in my neighborhood at like 30 mph. This one guy just stares at me as if I'm going so fast. Then I see his son in his pickup truck do a fishtail out of the neighborhood. People go like 50 in their SUV's, and no one cares. BUt as soon as I go a few mph over 25 they all stare at me like I'm doing something. I feel bad, cause I know I didn't do anything.

Of course, look at the Celica ad campaign. I love the one for the ACtion Package when the old neighbor yells "slow down!!! this is a neighborhood!!!" and of course the car is just parked. I guess what I want to know is are people actually having problems with keying and the like, like blk00ss had. My incident, while funny, makes me wonder about things. I'll tell you this, I have a big f 350 Super-Duty and still no one gets out of my way on the Interstate. Everyone does when "the insect" hits the highway.

Sorry, but I don't want to hear any Celica owners complaining about how often they are vandalized. No one, and I mean no one, has more problems with this than Type R owners. Sorry.

I haven't encountered any hatred because of my Celica. Actually, I get a lot of compliments. I think for the most part, if there's any hatred for the Celica is only because it's a Japanese import. I would suspect one would probably get more negative looks from others who drive ONLY American made cars. Then again, that's my opinion.

Some of it doesn't really qualify as hatred for the car. Most of the Type R vandalizations are probably by other Honda owners. People want things like the spoiler and the emblems. That isn't really hatred. They are obviously fans of the Type R if they are trying to make their car look like one. Many of them are jealous of R owners I guess.

I'm not sure if that is the same for the Celicas. I don't know why you would vandalize a Celica. I also would guess most of the Celica incidents are scratched paint and such, rather than stolen parts off of it.

Sad world we live in.

When I first got my car some punks ripped off my whole driver's side mirror..it cost like 250 to replace at the time!!! Since then I have an alrm system with 2 BIG flashing LEDs on the top of the door by the small tweeters...no problems since then!

Man, if there is a red neck country look no further than Oklahoma, self proclaimed "truck country."

Anyway, I've observed that the gun tokin, beer drinkin, God fearin, gay bashin, 100% made in America, fully Unionized, weekend rodeoin, pickup drivin people may not appreciate my car the way I do. Yes...I know, you as do I probably have several of those things in common. I just hope nobody is chicksh*t b*stard enough to take a problem out on my car versus face to face with me.

I've only had my Celica for 3 weeks now but I have noticed people seem to get out of the way on the Interstate, at least seamingly better than before. I think I got less people to move in my dad's Ford 1ton flatbed. I really don't understand it. Maybe they just expect my Celi to be going faster than the big *ss truck. Can I really be getting more love in my Celi!?!

$.02 :)

Actually people seem to like my car a lot around here, they compliment me all the time.

I'll never forget the night I got it, I was driving to my friend's house and stopped at a red light and I looked around. Right next to me there was this dude on a van and he had a smile from ear to ear and was looking at my car, then he looked at me, kept smiling and gave me the thumbs up LOL

You just gotta change your behavior a bit, since I got the Celica I park in well lit areas, leave it with the valet, I park it inside my backyard (Grass is cheaper than any parts of the car) I try not to piss people off on the street by doing stupid **** and keep it low profile, jeez, it's still attracts a lot of attention anyway...

The only reason I used the word "hate" was to get people's attention. I'm sure no one actually hates cars! Interesting comments. Some people resent youth and material success... maybe that's what the car symbolizes to some people. I see nice new Saabs being keyed.... perhaps it's a compliment when vandalizm occurrs, like our cars is more expensive than they are.

well, I've gotten nothing but compliments about my car. everyone around here loves it. I always get smiles and thumbs up when i'm cruising. the only bad looks i get are from other celica owners. i don't know why. maybe cuz theirs is stock and mine is the only modified celica down here.

i've even had people tell me they want to get a college education to get a higher paying job just to be able to afford a car like mine. haha.. only if they knew that i'm still broke. damn bills.

Mine hasn't been vandalised but I get hassled by other drivers at least once per week.

Mainly giving me the finger for NO reason. I put it down to jealousy and cos there are a lot of men who don't like to see women in better cars than they've got.
I've also got an expensive personalised plate which annoys people. I used to get hassle in my last car - (Mercedes) and that was SLOW. Must be my number plate!!;)

I've never gotten any hatred either...then again, there are practically no celicas around here. Maybe you should move out of cousin-f*cker country :D

I live in a **** hole of a Neighborhood, I dont give people the time of day to do **** to my car. When i'm asleep at night i have my Cavalier parked behind my Celica. my neighbor does the same with his PHAT Yukon... Living in a neighborhood filled with Crack heads ect... I dont take my eye off my car for one sec. I know if they got the chance they'd do somthing. also ontop of that they stole my little bros bike on training wheels how sad is that??? it wasn't even in mint condition.

P.S. when i leave town i park my car in my friends house that lives in a gated community.

If somthing happend to my Celica i would have to hunt them down;)

I am a high school teacher and I get nothing but love. A day doesn't pass where I don't get asked by one of my students if they can drive my car or at least have a ride. Gets a little annoying sometimes.

I have a story to top this. The day I picked up my Celica I stopped at a stop light right beside a BRAND NEW Porche Carrera convertible. I took a quick look at his car but I see Porches all the time so I didn't pay much attention. I was giving my mother a ride in my new wheels and she was watching the guy in the Porche. She pokes me in the side and tells me the Porche driver is checking my car out. I didn't believe her but she says the guy looked from front to back, back to front at least two times. I had a smile on my face for at least an hour after that :)

well.....

who here reading this thread has heard about what happend to my celica ?

yeah.... it sucks ass bigtime but i learned from my mistake of leaving my car - even for just 4-5 hours

EVEN if you need to leave your car for anything (breaking down-needing towing) DO NOT LEAVE IT !!

lets just say that that piece of ass i was after turned into one hell of a mistake - didn't get it and now look at my celica

at least they caught the ****s that did this to my car

once again i have to say......**** insurance !!! they're still tryin' to screw me !!!

I knew this was going to be an issue when I bought the car. I realized with the second vehicle, I didn't need to park it places. I also decided I wasn't going to let thugs make me settle for something less than I wanted.
