Is it considered part of the engine?

I think this topic has come up before, and I don't believe it is. The tensioner is covered under your 3/36k .... sad, cuz I probably should get it done eventually.

It is covered under the warranty and I believe it should have been on Toyota's TSB board....

I paid $0 for it, but I'm under both mileage and years old for both. I'd say power train.

i just said that theres a squeaking goin on in the area where the belt tensioner is located...then i said that i had "done some research" and found out that this was a common problem with celica's and that there was a TSB for it...

Anthing that prevents your power train from operating normally is covered by the powertrain warenty. The belt tensioner is not a "wear" item.

Nope, only under 3/36 warranty. If you get it covered under powertrain, your dealer got away with something.
On all TSBs for the belt tensioner, they specifically say 3/36. That is the same for Corolla, Celica.......you name it.

Clone, I believe that you posted that you are out of your 3/36k range. Have you or any others replaced the belt tensioner by yourself?
Is this job a terrible pain in the ars? ANYONE POST AND HELP US OUT PLEASE!!!

I got my belt tensioner replaced like 4 months ago, and I had 38,000 plus miles on it and they still did it for free. They didn't even question me on it, since they knew it was a common problem and, it should have been replace from the get go. So if they charge you just complain to the manager.

Is there any possible way that you could post your warranty slip? Thanks for giving us this information. I have been working with a pretty cool dealer... but I dunno how cool they really are ;)
