Hey wassa? I am brand new to this board. I don't have a celica, but I am still in the toyota family. I own a 97 corolla, with decent amounts of mods. When i get my ground effects and my custom trunk on i will take more picstures and finish my signature on here. I just would like to say that I love the celicas, and I am very knowlidgable about them, and if i dont know anything then I can always ask my dad who is in the top 5 mechanincs for toyotas in the eastern united states. Well i just wanted to say hi, and I will be looking forward to chatting on this board.

welcome. Since your dad is so highly ranked maybe he can get a straight answer from toyota as to why they changed the rev limiter.

I can tell you that. That is easy. They changed it because stupid ass kids think automatically that higher rpm equals fast speeds.(if you think that is tru well your wrong, the motor is built for a certain powerrange and you can exceed that can go out of it. so if you go out u actually loose power) so they were pushing it to the max and then speed shifting missing the shift and putting a huge hole in the block. and most of these blown engines are under warrenty. This means tonz of cost for toyota. So to save money the lowered the reline and less engine blows. is that ok for a answer

So tell me this, why do the automatic have the lowerrev limit, if you can't misshift them?

if toyota wanted to eliminate the blown engine "problem" they'd have to modify the tranny not the engine... they dropped the fuel cut from 8300 to 7600 which isnt really enough to save an engine from detonation and whether you were at 8300 or 7600 is any gear, going to a gear that is too low for it will just blow the damn thing to hell.
second reason you mention is b/c of the useable powerband... for this i'd refer you to the numerous dyno graphs that show the engine still putting out the power better than ever at 8300 RPM... if anything, powerwise, you'd want to RAISE the limit...
other than that welcome to the board... we look forward to your and your dad's input.
