My first pair lasted me over a year. I just got new ones about two months a go and they are still fine. I got the PIAA xtreme whites also. Make sure when you install them you do not touch the bulb try not to scrathc them either. Most of the PIAA bulbs for some reason blow after one year. Everyone I know, it just seems to blow after one year or really close to one year. It sucks when you pay over $80 for some bulbs.

how do you keep them from blowing out? Buy the toyota ones
...dont you love the sh*tty quality of electrical wiring these days?

the OEM ones are made by KOITO, so maybe you can try KOITO WHITEBEAMS?? maybe those will be less likely to blow.

Theres nothign wrong with the wiring - the factory bulbs last forever - sounds like the bulbs you are buying are of inferior quality. /shrug

S.Menchavez was having problems with multiple bulbs burning out in a matter of a day. First, one head light goes out.. so she goes and buys 2 new bulbs.. changes them, works beautifully.. (she didn't touch them either).. Next day.. one explodes in the head unit.. so she goes back to the place she bought them from and they gave her a new one. She replaces the dead one.. and the following day the other one explodes in the head unit.. so she buys a new bulb .. and again the next night the third bulbs explodes. She put in the right bulbs.. we doubled checked. She didn't touch them either.. Crazy..

I always clean mine W/ a lint free cloth and a 99% alcohol... I've had mine in for over a year now W/O a problem... Try dropping down to a lower wattage too. really you shouldn't use over 55watt either coz the space the bulb is in is soooo small.

Aaaaaaaaw, thanks for the concern on my behalf, Lauren. :gap:
Ya, I am using 12v 55w. Is that correct? I got those numbers off the stock bulb. And they keep blowing up in there!

When you have those kinds of problems your options are somewhat limited:
1. Incorrect handling at installation
2. Defective parts
3. Wrong part for the application
I'm guessing that number three is the primary culprit.

I just took my car in yesterday, the socket that held my headlight bulb is completely destroyed and has to be replaced. I had a hyper white bulb in there, the toyota guys were pissed off at that, saying that celica owners are coming in left and right with blown sockets from hyper white and blue bulbs. Why are they even made, then???

I'm still on the original factory bulbs in my car. NO problems at all.

All of my OEM bulbs are fine after almost 2 years also. In my opinion, most aftermarket bulbs are of inferior quality compared to OEM.

What's up with these aftermarket bulbs? Oldster, you say it's probably wrong part for the application, but I got an H7 12v 55w just like the stock bulb said... I don't know what the problem is. The last one that blew was cleaned with an alcohol swab as well. I guess daSchtick is right about some brands just being inferior. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
I guess I am going to go back to stock bulbs. I have glass bulb tips stuck inside my headlamp from blowing up in there and I don't need to start a collection in there. I like the hyper white look...but at least with stocks my headlights match my fogs without replacing everything with aftermarket.

MY aftermarkey Nokya H7 Bulbs just blew on saturday after 2 years of driving... It happened right after I power washed my car too... I wonder if water is leaking or something because the side the bulb blew on is the side with condensation...

Could be a problem with the ground wire? Also i reckon that most aftermarket bulbs are manufactured to blow after so long so that you have to replace them, this is how the company would make money. It's evil!!!

All the aftermarket bulbs I've owned have had a different filament design than the stock bulbs. Could that be the problem?

Agreed. Even most aftermarkets parts are'nt as well designed design (durable) as OEM, in addition to the fact that aftermarket tend to push the limit more. Things break a lot faster when you max out their limits.

I just found out....I have to pay $90 to get new bulbs put in by toyota, one of the sockets is melted bad but not destroyed, and the broken bulb is jammed in there...toyota just said that if it had been completely ruined, I would have to pay $400 to get the wiring sh*t redone completely....
to make matters worse I got drunk on st. patrick's day and lost my keys in NYC, that f*cking remote entry/alarm keychain thing...costs between $50 and $200 depending on your alarm system...that's an entire days' worth of work spent on complete bullsh*t, I'm fuming mad right now.....

Birghter bulbs, hotter temp, of course they don't last as long.
I have used Raybrig and Polarg headlights and they lasted fine, although not as long as stock.

i dont think that piaa are inferior to OEM bulbs, i mean doesnt piaa have a good rep. for having long lasting bulbs, also that look the best and actually shine out enough light to see the road....compared to those crappy hiper white bulbs that may be blue, but give no kind of road visiability at night? ohh well i gess i just gota invest in some HID....cuz at this rate in 3 years i would of spent enough money on bulbs to by me a nice HID kit....
btw what brand HID does the s2000 or the bmw's use? i like those styles compared to benz's and the acura's

Also, some site tested a ton of different H7 bulbs, and PIAA was one of the worst brands for visibility. Philips was the best.

why are there billions of cheap h7 bulbs on ebay and no good phillips?
Blue Bomber
06-05-2002, 06:06 AM
Probably cause the cheap bulbs are cheap, and the seller can make some $$ off them. You can only get the Philips bulbs from Europe from two companies (that I know of), and they sell them for about the same price ($40-45).
well damnit lets start a GB on those phillips blubs ;)

I had Phillips H3 bulbs for my fog lights, they were really nice, cost about $45/pair from Asia.
