Ok, tire replacemnt time. I am considering getting some new tires with a 205/x/15.

Question...would i want a 205/50/15 or a 205/65/15. I understand that both of these do not give me the perfect match and will throw my speedometer off a little bit.

From my calculations, 205/55/15 would be the ideal tire, but I just don't seem to find any with those specs. Am I missing something or do one of the two tires above work just fine and how much would it throw off my speedo?

Thanks a lot guys,

By the way, i did some searching and it seems most of you have 205/50/15s so I am just makin sure this is what i should do.

you want 205/55/15 and there are some great tires out at that size, depends on what you want and how much your willing to spend, on tirerack i entered it in and i got 29 results with everything from high perforamcne tires to snow tires, the bridgestone s0-3s in that size are about 102 each for a great value tire at that price the kumho 712 is 67 bux at that size, just let us know what you want performance wise and rpice wise and thne check out tirerack and contact sacha from edge racing (nc.org sponser) and you should be able to get some good prices.

p.s. here's my search on tirerack http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?startIndex=0&width=205%2F&ratio=55&diameter=15&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&do=Search

btw the people running 205/50 are running 205/50/16 on the gts's 16in rims.

Yeah, I really don't think you want 205/50R15's...that's what I autocross on right now, so I know what it looks like...kinda funny looking for daily driving.

As Karim said, tirerack has a ton of 205/55 choices...

i found a lot of tires but only a few in my price range...I am looking for something that has plenty of bite on dry and wet surfaces, but that also allows for some snow driving as well, since i am in that part of the United States that sees snow (NOCONES will understand). I don't want to go over $70 per tire (don't have much money) and i am hoping to get them in 205/55/15...so basically...

Under $70/tire, good wet/dry/snow handling...and good wear (unlike those POS potenzas) in 205/55/15.

Thanks for all your help, i will continue to look as well.

NOCONES...I saw your car today in the parkin lot around 12...nice lookin car...where do you go autocrossing/etc...i did that once when the brr-scca came to TECH, placed 3rd (not too shabby for my first time out) :)

Peace,

J

Thanks...although it's extremely dirty right now! Just got back from an SCCA Nat'l Tour autox in Rome, NY.

As for where to go, the SCCA Blue Ridge Region has about 1 event/month...check out the sched on www.brr-scca.org. I'm not going to the next event because I'll be on vacation, but I'd be happy to help you out if you want to get into it.

There are also events in NOVa, Richmond, and western NC that are (somewhat) reasonably close.

As for the tires, your criteria are pretty tough to meet. The Kumho Ecsta 712's are an excellent value, but I bet they're sketchy at best in the snow.

I've had Yoko Avid H4's (on another car) before...good all-season tire and only $81 in 205/55R15 at tirerack right now. $89 with free shipping at www.tires.com. Won't touch the dry performance of the Kumho, but you can trust it in snow and it will likely last longer.

NoCones,

Yeah, I know I am really picky for my tires...I just want a lil of everything. I might just stick with some Dunlop SP Sport A2...they are cheap, but look like they have good specs just too bad they are only 195/60s...oh well. Is there a considerable difference in performace from 10mm in the tire? (honestly) or does it just kinda look a lil nicer to have wider tires?

Thanks again,

By the way, what is your Screen Name on AOL (if you have one) mine is Iamthejeff7, however i have privacy set, so i need your name on my list before you can see me.
