On a stock 140, running a turbo it is pretty much expected that 'the con rods will give at somewhere before or around 250bhp'. Could someone clarify this for me please? Is it the rods them selves, their bearings or the thing that holds them to the piston that goes?

I'm going to put a MWR oil pan on my C2 setup, and was considering doing some of the bearings since the oil pan will be off any way. I spoke to the mechanic and he says the con bearings are easy to do once you have the pan off, and with the $/

I take it you have a GT? WHat year, mileage? if its old do a compression test. Also keep in mind a good number of 00-02 1zz engines have an oil consumption problem, so i would mske sure that will not be an issue since your are already doing engine work :)

Its a 2001 with ~65k on it. i've had the C2 kit on it for about a year and half now, I'm OK for the oil consumption (so far), compression is fine etc. I'm just looking for the easy win really - if it is the conrod bearings that go then I have the opportunity here to up rate them for ~

The rods AND bearigns are both weak as hell. The bearings like to spin and the rods wad up into an S shape. I would upgrade both

Ideally I would too, but

I would do at least the rod bearings - they are easy to change anyhow.

if you change the rods, you have to pull the head. so yes do the bearings for sure first. there is alot more work involved in rods.
