First im sure this will probly get moved but im hoping to get a lil more attention by posting it here first...

1. was there an M-Sport in 03
2. did it have dbw
3. think it would work in my 03 gts

reason being since there is no stand alone for the 03 I was looking into the M-sport ECU as an option because it is tuned a little bit more aggressively...

any input would be appreciated..

no i believe the m-sport was a 2000 model only, limited edition.

TRD Sports M was a limited edition model made very early in the life cycle of the Celica, so no, there isn't a DBW version of the ECU.

and it was overseas, the pinouts might be different. just like how a carrolla XRS ECU wont work for us or the Lotus'

Doesn't that combo approach the cost of a Hyrda tho.

yep and the hydra is still only a "piggyback" to the stock :(

dont let the "piggy back" name fool you. All the stock ecu does is control the gauges and ac I believe. The hydra has full control over everything else about twice the amount of what the pfc can do.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that. The Hydra has a very nice knock control and boost-dependant fueling, which makes it easier to tune a boosted car. Other than the knock control, the advantages on an N/A car are pretty minimal. Even on a boosted car, the MAFS isn't really a problem, more that it makes tuning more difficult since it won't auto-scale fuel to boost.

I still say that the hydra has quite abit more functions over the power fc. For example you can have the hydra as a control unit for a methanol kit. You can tell the hydra when you want to to spray at what rpm. With the power fc you have some sort of external controller/timer. Atleast with what I have seen first hand in the past. But yea with na cars there really isnt much difference between the hydra and pfc

There's tradeoffs for each. You pay a bunch more for a Hydra and its not plug and play, two advantages that go to the PFC. But the PFC is a less powerful unit, so you should make sure you really need the added features of the Hydra before forking over the extra cash. If I had my way, I'd run an AEM.

Yes very true, more than half the time the extra features are not needed. The aem would definatly be a nice addition for the selection of aftermarket ecu. I read mwr is currently running on on the car they are fooling around with. Im sure you heard they are possibly going to make a few harnesses so the celica can run the aem. If thats the case I may end up switching to the aem unit.
