My girlfriend just got me a Viper 791xv for my 2001 gts. I was contemplating whether to try tackling this myself or have someone install it professionally. At the same time I'm looking to relocate my battery to the rear to make room for my turbo's intake. I have a buddy who works for bestbuy as an audio installer in Southern Cali, but I've just moved to the central valley (merced) for school and would rather go somehwere closer. Besides, he seemed a little hesitant when I mentioned I've got an apexi turbo timer hooked up that I'd like integrated as well. He told me he'd do it for around 100 bucks, but if anyone has any other reliable sources I'd appreciate it.

sounds like a bit much to do yourself unless you know what you're doing. i would get it professionally installed by a car alarm shop (not best buy).

Well, it wouldn't be best buy...he's my buddy who, at the moment works for them, but he had his own business doing custom audio equipment and electrical for some high-profile rides in magazines. I trust his abilities, I'm just not sure I want to drive down there.

you'll be spending more than 100 bucks for sure if you bring it to a shop.

Spend the 100 bucks, hooking that thing up properly is a pain.

Anybody here on the forum in the California central valley/bay area installed a viper alarm on a celica? I'll help and pay + case of beer? I can solder/shrink while you do all the hard **** to get it done faster :) Spending the 100 bucks isn't really my problem, it's finding someone who will do a good job. All of the review sites for the 791xv say that it will all come down to the quality of installation because the hardware is flawless, but complicated.

my friend quy and i installed the alarm ourselves, and it really isnt that difficult if you have an idea of what your are doing and a wiring diagram. but i think 100 isnt so bad for an installation from someone who works at bestbuy doing those installs.

Sweet, thanks guys. How long did it take? What tools would be useful besides wire cutters, a crimper/butt connectors, electrical tape, and a soldering iron?

well i did the install in oct-november and it was so freaking cold here in CO...i worked 2 hrs everyday for about 2-3 weeks...it kinda took long because its my first time doin it and everytime i connect a wire i had to make sure it was working properly...all the tools u mentioned above is good and i think thats all you need....oh and power drill to drill the horn onto ur car...good luck i can also show you how to do the remote start too if u drive a manual.

I work at Futureshop so if you have any questions i can help you out also. Its really not hard at all. You might run into some difficulties when installing your hood pin, keyless entry, headlight flash and things like that. Use a volt checker also, cause if you cant find the right wire just look for the one that pulls out 12 when you press the button that its supposed to do. Ie. if you cant find the wire for unlock keep unlocking the car from the middle console until u find the wire that reacts positively to that.

Well, the thing is I go to school and this is my daily driver...I cant have it garaged for more than a weekend and I don't want to risk having everything pulled apart and finding out I dont have enough time to finish it in a weekend. I'd love to do it myself, It'd be great to learn. I installed my the turbo and all the suspension myself, but at the time I had another car to drive.

If i was in your position, i wouldnt do it myself. They are pretty complicated and can get quite messy if you dont prepare ahead of time with all the connections. You dont want to try and rush to finish it Sunday night just to **** it up even more. Either take it you a shop you trust or wait till you have more time. I learned from experience :(

yeah, im coming to the same conclusion...i was hoping to find a how-to on here, or somewhere else on the internet...no dice. Most everything you need to know (other than the electrical knowhow) is in the FAQ. If not, search the Forum. If all else fails.... pm Dave or I. I've walked others through this install. Do you have the Viper Install Manual? If not, I can send it to you.
