I have the NX single stage EFI wet kit and was just curious if any of you remove the bottle due to high heat? I'm in southern Louisiana and the temps here can get well over 100deg. While I'm at work my car will sit outside in the parking lot for ~10hrs. Should I remove the bottle during the week and just install on the weekend? How hot is too hot?

I have never removed my bottle other than to have it filled. My car prior to the GTS was an black MR2 and the bottle was in the rear trunk. One very hot day I had a Camaro SS mess with me so I hit the bottle. After I blew him off the road I looked at the gauge and it was at 1350psi. I don't know how much extra hp you get at that pressure, but it was insanely fast. I'm sure I was running lean, so this is not recommended. When the pressure gets high in the summer, try not to use it.

just don't let direct sunlight hit it.

have you ever checked your pressure guage at the end of one of yer 10 hour days to see where the pressure is?? so long as the pressure doesnt build up then you got nothing to worry about.. I dont think sunlight is enuf to make the bottle heat up enuf to build that much pressure to explode

The bottle is rated at 3000psi, and the blow-off valve is set at 2000psi. If you bottle gets above 1500psi you may want to think about removing it. The blow-off valve should purge you bottle before it gets to an unsafe limit. I don't recommend using nitrous if it is above 1200psi.

wow.. the blow off is at 2000psi.. thats insanely high pressure.. the most my bottle ever hit was like 1000

Yea you wouldn't want to hit the button at that pressure (by by engine). The blow off valve is just safety for the bottle itself. The highest pressure I have ever seen in my 3 years using nitrous is 1400psi. That was all day in the high 90's, in the trunk of a black MR2 in the sun.

Cool. Thats what I wanted to know. I have limo(5%) tint over the back hatch, plus we have the hatch covers in our cars, so I didn't think that the bottle would get near the saftey purge limit....but I wasn't sure.
Thx alot guys

ceLL-ILL-cA,
The Maxima that you are talking about was a result of the owner being an idiot. He was trying to get more power by increasing the bottle pressure. With a high watt bottle heater he was able to get the pressure high enough that the blow-off valve opened up. He decided that he wanted even more pressure, so he removed the blow-off (safety) valve. He then left the heater on overnight, then boom. He exceeded the 3000psi bottle limit, and it blew the back of his car off and part of the garage. People like this often take themselves out of the gene pool, he didn't this time.

Just when you thought people reached their limit in stupidity, one person proves there is no limit.

HOLY ****!!!! man, is that what would happen if you had the bottle in the trunk when you got into an accident? like lets say you were rearended? is there a pretty good chance the bottle would explode? thats nutz.

errrrrrrrr..... youve got to realize that that bottle was at 3000 psi, if your bottle blows at 1000 psi it wouldnt be THAT bad....., would probably just blow your hatch off instead of the back of your car :)

You think that's bad, how about those 3000gt/Stealth TT guys that carry around propane..... KABOOOM! You'd be lucky if you didn't blow up all the cars around you too. Take a look at the video of the exploding propane tank on the 3si board, thats only a one pound bottle too.

Guys...
It'd be totally different if you were involved in a collison.
The accident would NOT cause the canister to explode, but mosty likely rupture.
Imagine firing a pistol...the gas will escape at the weakest point of entry...which would be the bore of the weapon...welps...the weakest point in your bottle would be the rupture.
It'll rupture (which will definetly cause some debris and structural damage), but it definetly won't explode like the back of that car did.
Remember Gone in 60 Seconds? That's the type of crap you'd have to deal with...only it'd be in the back of your trunk.
:D
Hope that made ya feel better...mwhahaha.

Unless of course it doesn't rupture the bottle and your car sets on fire, pressure build uip, kaboom. On the other hand if the cars on fire then the best thing to do is move away quickly and watch the show :)

I remeber this from way back in the day...The guy said he forgot the bottle heater on and the BOV failed to open...
Jeez larry, best is 1000psi huh? Sh*t, here in phoenix I had to jet down my nitrous side because I can get the bottle below 1200 because of the constant 100+ degree heat into the night...My buddie left his bottle in the car on a 100+ degree day and the pressure was well over 1500, close to 2000 if I remeber...N.O.S bottles have 3000psi BOV if I remeber correctly, not sure on the NX, Nitrous works, ETC...
