View Full Version : What could this possibly be?
When I start my car in the morining it hesitates when I hit the gas. It more than hesitates, it nearly stalls. The car idles fine but when I hit the gas the revs drop. If I hold the gas down to the floor the revs will not go above 500-1000. Eventually it will rev up, sometimes there is a popping sound just before it revs up. It acts like it is not getting enough gas or something. After the car warms up it runs ok but still has a slight hesitation when taking off from a start. Do you think this could be the injectors or mybe fuel filter somewhere?
I have used Techron Fuel system 2 times and no positive results. In fact the problem is getting worse. I am bringing the car in to Toyota tomorrow but I would like some input from you guys so I will A.) know what to expect B.) Can make sure they won't mess with me and do more then really needs to be done.
Any input would be much appreciated.

Hmm....
To be honest..mine does that every so often..but only on really cold days.
It doesn't do it at all if I warm it up in the morning? Anyone have a clue?
Of course, I've always attributed it to that S-AFC problem that everyone has with the bogging and what not....so who knows?

Mine does the EXACT same thing... I feels like you are trying to start out in 3rd gear or something...right?
U could describe it that way.

well i'm with you guys on this problem. mine's been doing it for about a month or so and has just gotten way worse. now even after the car has fully warmed up it still does it. i've even tried revving up to 3k or so and dropping the clutch but it still bogs down and feels like it's gonna stall. i took it to toyota (it also had a CEL at the time) but all they would tell me is my CAI is causing it. only thing i find hard to believe about that is i've had the CAI for about 9 months and it worked fine up until recently. i'm planning on putting a stock airbox back on (once i get one) since i'm selling the car soon anyways and am gonna see if that fixes it.
Well, my car is stock and always has been so it is not the CAI. I am taking it to Toyota tomorrow so I will update you guys on what they say. I was just hoping that someone else had the same problem and got it fixed.

i had that problem once and it was my MAF. look into that guys :)
Well, it is definitly Airbox related. The MAF I am sure is part of it. I just went to look at my airbox and the MAF. Turns out that one of the brackets that hold the top of the airbox in place in the front is broken. The top of the airbox was coming off. I am sure that this mad the air/fuel mix get thrown off. I took off the MAF and Q-tiped it and made sure the top of the airbox was on correctly. When I tried it the car ran MUCH smoother. It is not perfect yet. I am sure the airbox bracket being broken is not helping things but the car is much better off now.
One of you guys said it was not your CAI because the car ran fine for 9 months before it started but it seems that this fits the profile. The CAI gets the MAF dirty over time so after U use it for a while your car will have this problem. I am still going to take my car in tomorrow and see if they can replace the airbox under warrenty.
i had that problem also....i took it in and they changed my battery...everything is fine now

My car (stock) is very hesitant before it's warmed up. I don't dare pull into traffic for at least 5 minutes after I start it. I took it back to the dealer, but they conveniently couldn't reproduce the problem.
Seems like a lot of folks have this problem. It also seems that everyone has a different solution. Another Celi owner that I work with ended up with a new ECU and fuel injectors over it.

yea, i got the hood on a few weeks ago, just haven't gotten around to posting any pics yet. i think i like it pretty good, except the stupid wave down one side of it. i paid all this extra $ for tc spoiler since they're supposed to be awesome but that kinda pissed me off. and my friend also got one and hers had a couple of little dent like things in it. however, other than those flaws the hoods were rea nice. i'll try to get some good pics of it and put them up here soon though.

I had what sounds like the same problem. I just took my car into Toyota and they told me that I had a burnt clutch. I only have 22,000 miles on my car so that is very fast for a clutch to burn. How many miles do you have on your car? I am currently fighting with Toyota to get them to pay for the new clutch. Let me know what they say about your problem.
Well my problem had nothing to do with the clutch since it happened while the car was in nuetral and I was just reving the engine.
I went to Toyota today and they are ordering a new air box for me. I ran the car today after cleaning the MAF and putting the airbox top back on correctly (even though the bracket is broken) or at least straight. The car ran better today than it has in weeks.
I also brought a copy of the TSB for the belt tensioner and although they could not reproduce the sound they are going to replace my belt tensioner as well.
Now I just have to wait for the parts to arrive.

It can't be the MAF sensor...at least not in my case.
I just had mine replaced about a month ago...and I still get it every once in awhile.
Hell, I got it that morning when I turned it on to drive it off the lot...
So there's gotta be something else going on...but it IS the exact same problem I think.
Anyone know what that dealio about the S-AFC was?

my car is completely stock, so it's not a CAI or modded airbox problem. if you have any ideas post up.

x-evil-x: i think the hood looks pretty cool on my carbon blue (almost black) car. in some angles or at night you can hardly even tell it's there but sometimes it has a cool glow to it. only thing i don't like is that in some angles of the sun and under certain trees and stuff it will have a kinda gold-yellow look. and like i already mentioned earlier, the big wave in the fiber is quite annoying also. i put a few pics of it at http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/codygts/lst?.dir=/CF+Hood+and+RSX+Meet&.src=ph&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/codygts/vwp%3f.dir=/CF%2bHood%2band%2bRSX%2bMeet%26.dnm=CeliCF1.jpg%26 .src=ph&.view=t (some of the pics are before i got the hood though - the ones at hooters and the one that's called "aprilceli1" dont have it on).

Hmm...
Wow...your problem sounds totally different than miine. It doesn't just do that in the middle of traffic.
Only when I first get in it sometimes.
All it takes is a bit of pedal..like a quick WOT on the throttle and it's taken care of.
Only have to do it once....
Again...I have to ask..what was the deal with the S-AFC being a problem for this situation?

oh, and my car does the same thing...i will pull out in traffic sometimes and it will just take forever to gain any power. 2nd gear seems to be especially low on power (i took a turn at about 20 mph or so, downshifted into 2nd and floored it, then for a little test i counted in my head until i got to 60 and it was at least 10 seconds or so seconds.)
