View Full Version : Emanage Ultimate hot start problems.
I've been having issues with my car hot starting (starting up after the engine's been off for a little while). The car takes excessive amounts of cranking and I usually end up tripping my 100amp circuit breaker (battery in trunk). Cold start (first thing in the morning) seems fine and the engine starts fine if it's had some time to cool down. Does anyone know what I need to adjust in order to fix this? I know the MX-5 people fixed this problem by using the IAC map on the EMU. I'm not sure that mine is even wired up to the IAC as it wasn't labeled in the install guide (anyone know the correct wire for that)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
*bump* Anyone? I wired up my IAC and tried adding to the duty cycle to see if it would fix the problem like the MX-5 people, but still no go.

no idea on the EMU issue. but a couple of guys here have alittle of hot start problem.
when it's hot, the first crank would never start the engine up. they would have to crank once, pause, crank again for like 2-3 second before the engine would fire up.
once had something like this myself. a change of the fuel filter help alot in my case. dun know if it would for you though.
If that's a little problem, then must be having a major issue. I have to keep cranking over and over again, so much that I trip my 100amp circuit breaker. As soon as the engine cools off, I'm fine, but if it's anywhere above 80C or so, it just won't go. I got stuck at a gas station pump for over 5 minutes this weekend just trying to get my car started again :(. I'm not sure what troubleshooting steps to take to figure out what the problem is.

Could it be something with a trim map for coolant temp vs cranking enrichment or anything like that you think? maybe the stock ecu does not like bigger injectors or adapted to hot starts? Not really sure, just throwing some things out there.
Never had any issues with eManage blue, which is why I'm stumped on this one. If it is an issue with not enough fuel at hot starts, I'm not sure where I can apply a "fix" for this in my settings that won't effect the car once the engine is fully warmed up and running. I want to make sure I get this problem fixed before I have my tuner tweak my boost maps.

Cranking injection is usually separate from your base fueling map. check to see if there's aa temperature-dependant cranking setting. Sounds like you need to pull some fuel from the hotter breakpoints.

something you might want to try.
check/change those relays. especially the IGN and EFI relays. my car is coming to 7 years old and it gets alittle cranky in the morning. as in the idle would like miss a beat sometimes. but with the relays changed, things are alot more smoother.
my mech experienced this in another celica that he fixed. he did the usual things like changing fuel filter, spark plugs, cleaning of the ICAV etc.. but that celica continued to have issues, till the relays was changed. that car was 6 years old.
There's no separate cranking map on the EMU. I did notice that it was easier to crank if I made he injector lag gap larger, but then I started having rich and stalling out issues. I might have to wait till the weekend to experiment some more, as stalling out while in the middle of driving to and from work isn't very fun.

The more I hear about the e-manage, the more I think its a piece of crap.
If it wasn't for emissions testing and my auto trans, I would have probably gotten a different system.
If these are them and I think they are because I have the same ones..
Siemens DEKA IV 630cc injector specs from EFI University forum

Yeah, that's what I have. I used the 1.14ms setting. The problem is figuring out what the stock 260cc Toyota injectors are.
Weren't you running the 630's with the EMBLUE?
I had 460's on the blue. I had the 630's working on there as well.

Yeah, that's what I have. I used the 1.14ms setting. The problem is figuring out what the stock 260cc Toyota injectors are.
According to the default 1ZZ Power FC map, its 0.608 ms at 14v.
Settings of 260cc / 0.60ms -> 630cc / 1.1cc have fixed the hot start issue. The car now turns over in a couple of cranks. I'm not sure if there's anything I can adjust to make it start more immediately. Now I just have to get my air map worked out so that the trims aren't bouncing up and down a lot causing the car to run lean and rich when letting off the gas.
