So I bought a 2000 GTS and the person who owned it before me put a large spoiler on the back. The rear wiper was repeatly getting stuck and out of frustration I tried replacing the wiper with a smaller one so it'd fit and I did it while the rear wiper was switched ON.

Needless to say, it doesn't work, the motor still goes. I have no clue how to remove it and *fix* it

(other than remove the ridiculous spoiler too)

Does anyone have a how-to on removing the rear wiper altogether? I kinda wanted to just ditch it.

it can't be too hard..pop the plastic cover on the hatch off..look where the motor is and see what kind of screws holding it down..and remove it..

:worthless:

A picture of this would really help clear up some of the questions that are coming up in my mind with this question...

you take the screw out of the handle on the inside then you pop the plastic off then there is like 3 bolts holding the motor on take those off and on the out side at the bottom of the whole arm pull that up and there is a bolt under that its really easy and i think keytechniques even makes a plug to cover up the hole. I just stuck one of those plastic things that hold the engine plastics down over my hole.

In case any VA people read this... removing it wont affect inspection at all will it?

I just wasnt sure if it did or not. You would be surprised on some of the VA regulations though.

Well, this situation doesn't involve the spoiler really, I was just saying what caused me to break it. Since the motor still works I assume just the arm has cracked plastic on the holding part or it isn't aligned somehow.

So I'll just try to pop off the arm and see and I'll replace it if I have too. Even a 13 inch blade barely hit the spoiler so I'll have to get a 10.

Since you guys really want it, I'll go post a picture

im dying to see what this spoiler looks like. if the wiper blade can touch the spoiler it must be ungodly.

We live in the desert where it never rains.

Removing the rear wiper is not difficult at all. Like as has been stated, there are a couple bolts holding it on under the plastics in the lift gate.

As you can see, the wiper scratches the spoiler and got stuck up there before I moved it. I think I'll just buy a 10' blade AFTER I figure out how to reconnect the wiper arm to the motor

that doesnt look like an aftermarket spoiler. and you remove the under panel dont forget to unscrew 1 screw and then unscrew tho moter and check whats acctully broken or stuck or what ever post pics of it tho

seem like the motor is ok..but the wiper handle is bent to hell..maybe u can just replace the handle..

That wiper is NOT bent. Here is what you need to do....

Pry up on this tab on the wiper circled in the pic below.

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb297/dave80jc/wiper2-1.jpg

There is a nut that holds the rear wiper on. The motor has splines on the part that sticks out. The wiper arm has splines in it that hold the wiper in place. Loosen the nut, pull the arm up away from the trunk, move the arm to where it should be (parallel to the side of the car - just look for some pics to see) then tighten the nut and make sure the splines on the wiper arm and the motor are interlocking, or the wiper arm will not turn.

You don't need a smaller blade.

We are lucky. Check to see if you stripped the splines in the wiper arm. If so, you may need a whole new arm. Shouldnt be too expensive.

Heh, that info does help out. Guess I shouldn't take out my frustrations on the spoiler
