has anyone modified their headliners in any way wether it be re wraping it or painting it. mine looks horrible right now and im looking for an inexpensive but clean looking way to spice it up.

some people have used vinyl paint, I actually bought a roll of ultrasuede from wal-mart and used spray adhesive to get it to stick. It's now black and looks pretty sweet, much better than the stock grey.

do you have any pictures of that
and is that fabric very expensive
also how did you cover the sunroof door and sun visors

I don't have any pictures (unfortunately) but I have the entire headliner wrapped in the fabric. It cost about $10 for a 1yd by 3ft roll, which was plenty to cover the entire roof. I didn't have enough to do the sunroof covers but I might just spray them either silver or black...I haven't decided yet

i painted mine recently with duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint. they sell it at autozone, amongst other places. i went through 2 cans of it, and am gonna use a third to just make sure it looks really good. here's how it looks now (after 2 complete cans of semi-gloss black).

you can click the pic for a bigger version.

overall it looks really good. it definitely doesn't feel the same tho, so keep that in mind when you do it. it feels stiffer/rougher.

if you want to change the color but retain the same fabric feel, you need to use a dye, like SEM fabric dye.

Is the headliner easy to detach?

yep, you just have to pull out all the plastic pop rivets and unscrew the sunvisors. Adalos' picture looks exactly like mine except mine feels really soft and looks like suede.

i know of a number who used the duplicolor vinyl spray and i did the same on my visors. it turns out decent but is not as soft. now u can just do like me and get a carbon fiber replacement

yea know, i actually just forget about it. I'll get it done eventually when i remember to :D as for the visors to work they would have to be solid, maybe redone in fiberglass and thats just way to much work ;)The driver is c/f vinyl with the keyboard.

wow these healiners look really good painted black
im going to have to photoshop my interior with black headliner to see what it looks like. i have a 2000 so i dont know how the black roof and cargo cover are going to look in comparason to the purple ish grey interior.

what kind of prep work did you guys do before painting the headliner?
i have like fuzzy hairyness on my headliner and what looks like believe it or not coffee stains left by the previous owner.

i really didn't do much of any prep work on my headliner. any fuzz or lint stuck to it, i just pulled off. i had a few stains on it from who knows what, but since i was painting it black anyhow, it didnt really matter.

did you also paint the plastic clips and trim pieces that are located on the headliner
and as far as the windo visor is it possible to remove that warning label?

i think im going to end up painting my headliner along with all the plastic clips and what not that are on it so i have a uniform look

I think you should paint it. Or if you've got some carbon fiber in your car, I would get the cf one, but without some other cf, it might look kind of goofy. I think that wrapping it in another material would be a waste of money. And I think a painted black headliner would look fine with the 00-02 interior. Although, you could always do it a different color if you're worried about it matching like dark gray.

removing the headliner was pretty straightforward. i cut the sh*t out of my finger when i was trying to pull off those rear screw plugs tho, so be careful.

Wrapped mine in leather-like material. It looks good but if could do it again I would go with a less thicker material because mine took forever to smooth out bubbles. :gap:

Agreed. thats why I want to paint the the interior plastics black but it prolly won't happen for awhile because I drive my car everyday and rolling around without parts of the interior is not fun. :gap:

Easier said than done, I would personally just take out your stock interior and paint that.

that would be much easier and probably more practical.

i did a photoCHOP of a grey interior with black headliner but i just dont know if i like it or not. the carpet on the car is black so i figure the headliner being black isnt too akward. id have to see pictures to better make an assesment

I have mine wrapped in vinyl but I have some problems about a year later of some places coming off. It isn't hanging just though for the glue to handle 110

painting will chip off, especially in high traffic areas and things that get banged up a lot. i think buying a set of 03+ plastics would be easier and better in the long run than repainting the entire interior of your car.

It wont chip if you dye it, and/or if you spray clear on it :)
I dyed and cleared my dash and door sills, no problem thus far. In the 3 years Ive been on the boards Ive seen 4-5 03+ interior part outs. You may get lucky at the junk yard but then they still might over charge you, or you can get the plastics new, but then it wouldnt be worth it.
