I don't know about Texas, but everyone in Memphis would do 20% tint.

in california they let you do limo tint in the back, which is like 5% that's what i have, and most shops will do whatever you want in the front even if it's illegal...they'll just tell you it's illegal. I've even seen a limo tinted windshield!!!

In Delaware, my shop said driver and passenger window tint of any level is illegal, unless you have a medical waiver...then you can get up to 15%. I said put it on. They did and I drove right to my eye doctor with the medical waiver form and he filled it out with no questions (for eye photosensivity).

Assertiveness (but not being an a-hole) will get you far with a tint shop and in life. You're giving them business and act like it. They should act like they want your business.

I'm pretty positive it's 15%, I think you can tint your back windows as dark as you want though. They love to pull ppl over for tint in my area though.

Tint laws are different from state to state. Do a Search to get the link.

i have my inspection license for pennsylvania, it states in the book that every window must transmit 75% of light through it. so in otherwords you could tint all your windows to 25% and you could really be safe, and i think the dmv book says about the same thing.

I had the same thing happen..I wanted really dark tint but none of the reputable shops would do it because they might get hassled later on by legal problems. Cops are REALLY coming down on the tint laws in Houston, too. I already got 1 ticket for my tint being "too dark" even though the shop assured me it was legal, I even have the receipt showing the percentage used. The cop gave me the ticket and said it was not DOT approved. When I showed the judge my receipt it was dismissed, so it was really the cop just being an asshole that day, thats all.

I was also told you have to have a D.O.T. approval sticker on your drivers side window or its illegal. Dont know if thats true or not.

so shouldnt it be that you can tint your windows to 75%? cuz isnt tint the % of light that goes through? cuz i have 4-5% limo at the back and like 14% on the sides.. so your saying that i'm transmiting like 96% light at the back and 86% at the sides? that just seems wrong. lower the % the darker it is, well atleast for us california people

Do whatever is legal in your state. Do the research. If you choose an illegal tint, be prepared for the potential of reprocussions from law enforcement. Its as simple as that. Sure, some cops pull over cars with tint that may be on the edge of legal but still legal just to be a ****. They can get away with it since there's probable cause of an ordinance being violated(and hoping to stumble on maybe a DUI or gun in footwell or illegal transfer of midgets across state lines :) ). I hope you get my point

Most places up here in Washington State will do whatever you want, but they won't give you a receipt or place a warranty on their work. They would also ask for some money under the table to get this work done. So you would run the chances of paying more for a crappy tint install with no warranty or receipt. I went with another company in the area and got the darkest tint I could from them while still being legal and it was darker than the tint the other place wanted to sell me that was going to cost me more. Go from shop to shop and see what they will do for you.

you must have misread my post wrong, if you have 25% tint on your windows that means you are stopping 75% of the light from entering the car. the way you typed in your reply was just backwards, that's all. sorry if i confused you at all. if you have 4-5% limo tint then you are stopping 95-96% of light from entering the car. hope this helps. the lower the percent, the more it light it "reflects" or the darker it is.
