what is the max rpms that you could go to on a stock celica gts? when i race i go to 8000, im worried that i will do somethin to the motor. so does any one know how high i can go safely w/o blowing or damageing in any way the motor?
thanks!

8,ooo? thats not even your rev limiter unless your an 02 or 05. go to the rev limiter, thats what its there for. thats JDM y0!

on another note, some people have revved all the way to 9k on stock valves, but you dont make any power that far gone into the band so its pointless. youll prolly blow stuff shortly after that. i revved all the way to 11k once and yea, lets just say it wasnt the smartest thing to do.

rev limiter prevents our engines from "blowing" up...all that will happen if you go past the revs is it'll just "bounce" off the limiter, and you'll know it.....it's when you're at those high rpms and you shift and you MIS shift and end up in a lower gear and then it's time to say "ohh noessss i'm fvckeddd :( :("

that is when you call the tow truck

Try shifting right at 8300-8350. Trust me that additional 350 rpm makes a lot of difference in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I've hit 8500 for a split-second on a 1-2 powershift, guess all circumstances consipered together to fool the ECU for that split-second.

you can go to the rev-limiter without damaging your engine, that's what it's there for.

i probably wouldn't keep that sustained for very long because obviously your engine is working really hard, but that's when you should up-shift anyway.

i agree, if you dont have money to replace the engine if you **** it up then don't do it. Just because the engine can go up to 8300, doesnt mean it's healthy for it if you want it to last.

1) Don't race

2) When you "accelerate quickly", shift at 8,400 rpms quick so the needle jumps up, and so you'll try and land in LIFT again.

Now change your damn sig.

That will happen if you screw up a shift.
Other than that, go ahead and bounce it off the limiter.

I have my engine blown for this very reason. If you're gonna do it, keep the oil changed regularly and use only synthetic. Oh, and if you misshift, somethings going to break. And be careful revving after hard right turns. The oil pan is off to one side, which can starve the engine of oil if its low enough.

what oil do you guys recommend?

I use Castrol and I would recommend it. The regular dino oil GTX is fine for DD. If you drive your car hard very often get Syntec, it helps counter thermal breakdown.

i used to shift when the needle hits exactly 8k when i didn't know i can take it a bit more higher to stay in lift while shifting. assuming that you have a 2000 gt-s, then you'll be fine. i wouldn't recommend hitting the rev limiter all the time though, just a lil more knowledge about your car able to go higher than the 8k. but like other people have said, racing is getting outta hand. that's why there's more cops out there than ever to arrest those who still think they're Fast and the Furioso. And plus, gas is going to get near or even past $4 a gallon in the future. so i wouldn't suggest burning your gas so soon. just stay safe :D

Synthetic 30w. You're from Washington so you want an oil which is good for cold weather.

Check your lift bolts sir! Nobody has said that yet and I would recommend not hitting lift until you actually change them for yourself. If you have broken lift bolts, you can be in danger of spending a lot of $$ fixing the problem. They are extremely cheap to buy. You can get them at any Toyota dealership. Just make sure you explain to them what the bolts are (There are two, an Intake and Exhaust bolt). Here is a link to help you better understand this...

http://www.teamcelica.com/tech/installs/liftbolts/

It even has the part # listed on the site, for you to help explain what part you need because the dumbasses at Toyota don't know Celicas for ****.

Quote from one of my last experiences at the dealership, "Do you need the bolts for the front or rear spoiler, because often times, Celicas have a front spoiler and a rear spoiler"

/baffle.....

Oh yah... And you have the 2000 GTS. DEFINITELY CHANGE YOUR LIFT BOLTS ASAP because the 00-02 GTS models are known for getting a lot of wear and tear on the bolts. If you don't take anything out of this post, take this...
