KO to my ride!
I was on the highway.... for 20minutes, everything was normal, i was going 180km/h and my car suddenly starts to bog heavily and then i feel a big thud (i think it even made a big bang but i had the music on so loud). I release my foot off the gas, slowdown, turn down the music my motor was rattling like crazy :wtc: I pulled over sat in my place trying to recap what just happened and a strong burning smell starts coming from under my side of the dash. I positioned my emanage ultimate under the steering wheel above the pedal. I knew it was the emanage ultimate. I get under it and the smell is so strong. I remove panel and take it out.... it was boiling hot! i remove it from the harness. the chip was literally toasted!!! It blew my engine :wtc:
Monday im gona asses the damages. I guess im gona have to start with a new engine build :( and definitly not going with emanage ultimate ever again!!!!!
If i wona buy an already built engine! fully built down to the T! who could build it for me? MWR?
I want it stroked. stage 3 cams. larger oil pan. modified TB. aftermarket bearings. full Port and polish job. everything!!!
If i fail to find someone who can do me the whole package then I guess im gona buy that JDM engine i found earlier and do everything bit by bit.
POWER FC>>>>>Emanage Ultimate i guess....

MWR is the place to call for a fully built engine.

Might want to invest in a Power FC and tune or Hydra while you're at it.
MWR can be trusted to build and ship the engine, just multiply the timeframe they give you by 5 and you'll be fine.
LR or myself could also build the engine. I've never fussed with international freight though - LR has.

I just emailed MWR.
well you wont be dealing with anyone international. I give all responsible to a shipping company i deal with in the states called MYUS. so you will be dealing with them, the will buy it from you and you will ship to them. MYUS will take your engine and ship it to me. So if your interested in building me an engine pm with a package deal and all you'll have to worry about is the building the engine.
note: i had a 350 whp celi... im going for an aim of +500whp but not daily offcourse. Just for drag occassions. I want the car to be able to hold 400whp easyyyy.

I'd go with LilRocket for the engine. Downtime will be much, much lower.

Man, sorry to hear that bro. Any idea on what actually caused the meltdown that fried the engine? That's pretty discouraging cuz I have an auto & my options are limited for fuel manangement. The emanage was probly what I was gonna go with unless I wanted to spend a sh!tload more for a brashboy pfc with datalogit.
Good luck with your build, I hope it all works out for you.
Isn't lil rocket one of the MRs guys?

thanx bro....
its weird about the emanage ultimate. it seemed to run fine. from the way things look i think it was electrical mass that got it to fry up. on the forum, no one had this problem before! :S ill know everything monday and let u in on it.

I checked it out. looks like a very nice engine. I assessed how much bringing the engine from the states to my hood would cost. It will cost a hell of lot of money (since the engine is big, and the packaging will be extra big and safe+ it will be heavy)
i was just with the dude that has the JDM engine. I think im going to buy it off him for only 600$, already shipped straight from japan with 40,000km on it. Then im going to order a whole package of mods for the engine, have them installed here. An idea of labour cost here in Beirut, I had my custom turbo kit, engine build, transmission mods, appearance mods, electronics installed for less that $1200; so it will cost me peanuts for installations.
so i guess i could build a better engine setup with less money than that 3zz.
If i was in the states though, it would have saved me a big headache.

This is your problem. Cruising at 180km/h is stupid in itself.

thats only 100 mph, is countries like Germany, thats normal cruising speed

That sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that. Every shop that I spoke with when I was starting my turbo build told me that they wouldn't tune my car if I put an emanage in it because it would basicly be like strapping a time bomb to the car. If you can go with a full standalone this time around. Because I'm an auto I've been somewhat forced to use a Unichip, so hopefully I'll have decent results with that.
I bought a new built motor from MWR and they have been awesome. Don't plan on getting the motor from them real quick though, if you do decide to use them. Good luck.

PMed.
Im looking for a high powered street application/semi-race that can hold up to 16PSI regularly and +20PSI on occassions.

New block + Mahle pistons or sleeved block + Mahle's or Wisecos. Crower rods. MWR rod and main bearings. ARP main and head studs. Its a proven formula, there's not some sort of secret being kept from you. Proably could have gotten all that info from the Turbo FAQ thread.

dude i read the forums, im not being ignorant and lazy here.
their having clearance problems with Mahle, clearance problems with the aftermarket cams so im still jumpy in that feild. Im also curious about the small bits and pieces that make of the engine. these things i dont know about and i need your proffessional guide line on. for example, what parts to coat, whether to change oil gears....etc
btw who provides a new block?
Jesse IL

their having clearance problems with Mahle
The "problem" has been covered ad nauseum. People were installing pistons without making proper bore measurements that should be done on EVERY engine build.
clearance problems with the aftermarket cams
All the higher HP cars are running stock cams. The problems you speak of are minimal in the case of the nose of the cam or are the result of other issues like excessive head machining in the case of Redliner.
Im also curious about the small bits and pieces that make of the engine.
I told you: rods (not strictly necessary), pistons, bearings and sleeves depending on application. Done. Smaay's and MWR's engines are nothing special inside.
btw who provides a new block?
Toyota. Who else?
dude i read the forums, im not being ignorant and lazy here.
From where I'm sitting you are. There's a proven formula that's been laid out numerous times. Just follow it and be done. There's nothing special or unique about your goals that requires customized advice or hand-holding. People like Boosted write FAQ's so that he doesn't have to give personal advice to every guy who wants to build an engine. If you have a specific question, ask away but you can't just ignore all the info that's already been posted and expect people to care about being your personal tutor.

im with you on that, and you have a point. I already have a list of all these mods. its pretty much like my old setup except for cams and 1zz crank. I thought MWR and the other big guys posted just the general stuff leaving out the smaller details. well thats all i was worried about. guess it wont be much of a hassle then.
I have a question, about the mahles im sorta against the idea that mahles use a lubricant and that the block is not sleeved. gives me the impression that the lubricant wont last much. any feedback on this? thanx
note:
my old setup was
- Wisco Pistons
- MWR main and rod bearings
- Crower Rods
- walbro fuel pump 255
- Darton Sleeves
- Devilsown Water/Methanol kit
- 630cc injectors
- AEM alternator pully
guess im gona have to go with those again and add:
- ARR studs
- Piper stage 3 cams
- MWR stroker (instead of crower and wisco's alone)
- Smaays fuel return system or MWR's
- thermostat
- koyo radiator
- Custom oil pan
what else do you think i should do for a solid engine?
ZaneMan
11-05-2007, 01:27 PM
I think if you go stage 3 cams you will need new valves and springs.
