Well...xs-engineering had a special on a apexi n1 for our cars...so i called in and placed my order with my moms visa card...he asked to speak with my mom and i was like ok.

He asked the following questions:
1. visa card #
2. visa card exp date
3. name on visa card
4. the 1800 # in the back
5. the last 3 digits on the back AFTER the visa #
6. moms birthdate
7. last 4 digits of ss#
8. phone #
9. address to ship

Ive never placed a phone order before and i was wondering if this is the usual routine of questions to be asked....because if it isnt...then i will have to tell my mom to cancel her visa card... well...i think that xs-engineering wouldnt do such a thing..but who knos... any suggestions/advice??

As long as they don't ask for your SS#, you're okay;).

Everything seems fine except for number 6 and 7... I see no reason for them to be asking those question... You might want to look in to that... I have place a few of my orders over the phone and I dont recall asking me that information at all...

Im not saying that the merchant you gave the information to is going to do something bad... Its just that they wont need that information...

Hope that helps...

they probably just want it to verify that its you if you happen to call again.

They just asked for the last 4 digits. Some places I have ordered things from (not for my Celica) have asked for such information. In fact, one place I used my mother's credit card for asked for her mother's maiden name. The reason they ask for all that information is to verify that it isn't someone using your mother's card without her consent. When I ordered my TRD exhaust from eToyotas.com though, they didn't ask me nearly as many questions.

Strange thing here is, why would a MERCHANT need to verify your mother's maiden name or last four of the social? The card company usually does that for ID purposes, but if someone else is using the card over the phone, the merchant has no access to the mother's maiden name or ssn.

I've done it probably close to a hundred times, and they have NEVER asked me for that much info.

Usually:
Type of Card (Visa, MC, Amex)
Name on card
Card Number
Exp. Date
Security number on back of card

Thats it! Maybe they are just being cautious? If you are young ord have a young sounding voice, maybe they got suspicious?

That's what they usually ask me when I order stuff over the phone. And I have ordered a bunch of stuff from a camcorder to my sway bars.

this is not good. You should have never given out the above two to a merchant. You know what a credit company uses to verify that they are dealing with the card holder when someone calls them up ? That's right :

"Thanks for calling VISA, can I have you credit card number ?"

"hi my credit card number is xxxxxxx.....etc"

"Thank you, and what is the last 4 digits of your SS#"

"xxxx"

"Thank you what can I do for you today Mr. Rice GTS ?"

Im not saying that's what will happen in this case with xsengeering company but always expect the unexpected - it's a possibility for ID theft if they are not careful about storing that piece of info and just let it lay around at their desk. anyway you get my point. if someone other than card company asks for that info always demand a reason first and use your judgement

well since the order is for someone besides the card owner its prob just to check if the person (in this case your mom) does infact own that card..

but yeah, i'm not too sure on 6 and 7
