My father just ordered a brand new CTS to his spec from the factory
He gave my sister his Saab Aero in exchange for her 98 A4 1.8t Quattro (Sport package, heated seats, Bose premium sound system, sunroof, automatic climate control) - this car is warms up REALLY fast and is awesome in the snow - great winter vehicle. It has 70,000 miles on it.
The 1.8t has some issues (control arms, brakes) and needs a little fixing, so I'm driving it around now (he's driving my Z4 in the snow and loving it) and I'm going to take it in and get it fixed.
He told me if I want the A4 (after its fully fixed), I could sell my Civic and give him the proceeds and he'd call it even.
The A4, once its fixed, is worth roughly $7000-$8000 on the private market. I paid $4000 for my Civic but I could probably get a little more.
Keep in mind the Civic has full bolt ons, new clutch and flywheel, a super close ratio B16 hydro tranny, and a B18C1 GS-R motor.
Make an argument either way for either car.
I know the 1.8t has some nice potential, but parts for it look ridiculously overpriced.
Can I get it anywhere near as fast as my Civic? Will it break my bank?
The A4's handling is pretty impressive even in stock form, considering what it is. It definitely handles better than the last WRX I drove (of course its a slug in comparison).
