Ok, the first toyota dealer i took my car to ended up screwing me over and breaking stuff, for example, they cracked the exhaust manifold's heat shield. It rattled like crazy until i got it to the next dealership, where my problem(misshift) is being fixed.

my question is this: do we need it? cause it'll cost $100ish more to replace it and they said that welding it might not hold because of what it's made of.... i dont want the sucker rattling from now on. could i maybe cut out that section so the two edges of the cracked spot couldn't rattle against each other?

when you put the header on, do you leave the heat shield? If not, anyone still have theirs?

What do you guys think?

It's not needed. Every single exhaust manifold(header) maker does not make any type of heat shield for the headers, except factory ones but you can run without it without problems.

I think that you might need it because the "HEADER" is facing the firewall, not like honda's where the "Header" is near the fron of the car were it gets more air. Just my .02

I agree with swift. Are there any wires or lines near the exhaust manifold? I think you can find a wrecked GT, and get its heat shield.

I did ask that they put it back on, but try to soidler it first. if that doesn't work i'll replace it later....

tony- is there a junkyard in memphis that would have one? i hardly see celicas in mississippi, much less in junkyards here...
