I'm a small lil thing. 5'5 120lbs. How would that effect my 1/4 time compared to a guy like Maef or GTS Laid who are big guys.

can't tell you exactly how much but you know the less weight the better. idealy yes if both of you had the exact same cars and were = in drivers skill and many other factors were exactly the same, you'd run the faster time due to less weight. But what's the likely hood of both of you being equal in drivers skill.

Well your looking at what 80lbs? close to a 100.. thats will make a small difference, but a difference none the less.. some people who strip their cars would do anything to loose the extra 80-100lbs..

but if u have a car w/ torque .......it does not matter cuz my friend has a gti w/ over 200......and he races w/ 2-3 (including him) sometimes and he wins:wtf:

I heard something like 10 lb reduction = 1 hp. Not that the engine is making more horsepower, but that it as if your car were the stock weight and had one more horsepower. I know, that may sound confusing. Sounds a little fishy to me, but thought it might be a good thing to clear up in this post.

just do your cars curb weight + you / hp, to get your weight to hp ratio, should give you an idea if you compare the weights in the ratio

During the course of a bracket race it is best not to eat or drink during the course of the event, that coupled with going to the bathroom can cause you to severely run over or under your dial in. :chuckles:

PS - Atmospheric changes between runs could affect your times as much as the 100lbs would but yes, lighter normally means faster.

Just for fun I did that using 2500 as the curb weight and 150HP at the wheels. With a 100lb driver the HP/Weight ratio is 17.3 and 18 for the 200lb driver for a difference of approx. 4%. Obviously that differential gets smaller as the HP increases.

I'm 5'9" 135 lbs and was thinking the same thing. If there is a big guy with the same setup, I'm thinking I'd have the upper hand.

I can vouch for the fact that this is true. I'm 6'5" and weigh about 240 lbs. I ran a 15.8 in my GT with just a CAI and I'm convinced I can could run a 15.5 like my friend Adam as he weighs almost half of what I weigh. I know he's got good technique and so do I. I even notice a difference in my car when my fuel load is around a quarter tank.

I think it helps as I can tell when I got an extra passenger in the car. But even being big you can net good times. I am 6'2" 235 and still ran a 14.4 on 17" wheels and tires. I think with a smaller person they ould probably hit maybe a 14.3@99.

In a torqueless wonder like a Celica GT I'd say it's damn huge. Basically the major reason my times are so wildly different from anyone else's. To my knowledge, nobody has done as much weight reduction as me. Of course, all the weight is back in the car now... well most of it anyway.

Think about it. 14.78 in a car with about 155 hp? What do you think I'm going to run with full interior? Not 14s.. that's for damn sure.

Maelfyn- how much did your car weight in at at the track? I've done a little, and it came in right at 2370lbs with no driver, the sub and amp where out along with the top half of the backseats, otherwise it was in street trim(no spare/spoiler/sunroof, rear tow hooks, back seat seatbelts, cf hood, wiper fluid drained, no engine plastics or whatnot, etc)...

i ran two 15.9s and two 16.1s, but i just found out that was on misshifted motor.... cant wait to get back to the track when i get my baby back :)
