Funny Noise

Anyone ever had a problem with the car making what sounds like a bad belt noise when starting the car and going for a few minutes, except when the car is in revs? It pretty much is only doing it when idling and it seems to be more under the car than under the hood...

I dunno what the situation is recently, but a couple months ago toyota knew about it and had no fixes for it yet.

Mine's been doing it from day one (7 miles on the odo) usually during high moisture. It's the accessory belt/belt tensioner doing the nasty sound and goes away after a while.

A honda friend of mine told me once after another funny sound in my car, "With japanese cars, unless it's nasty grinding sounds, the check engine light knows all."

Man that sucks, it sounds ghetto. Guess I'll have to let it warm up before I take it out if I'm going anywhere in a hurry then... I'd read posts that said there were sounds like a paint can, but damn, its one loud can :pissed

maybe change the belt?

Yeah. I had a situation where the car would squeak really badly only at low RPMs and usually mostly when it was wet. Turned out that the drive belt was glazed (though I've got no idea why). Toyota replaced it under warranty. That was at around 18k miles.
