Despite serving me well, I'm growing very bored of my auto GT, mainly b/c its auto, but also b/c of the cheap-o interior & lack of balls. I was thinkin of getting a 03'+ GT-S For awhile now but they are selling for WAY too much (12k+).
Luckily my bro-in-law might sell me his 02' black WRX for $3000. Only problem is it was rear-ended & the trunklid doens't close. You can barely tell it was rear ended if you look at it from the rear, but if you look at it from the passenger-side you'll see the rear 1/4 crinkled in some & the bumper overlapping the wheelwell a bit..probably about 2-4" pushed in on that side :(. Suspension wasn't bent however so the alignment is still straight & its fully driveable.
So now I'm debating....3k is super-cheap for a ~80k mileage WRX, and it has a hks turbo timer, apexi SAFC, nice pioneer head unit & a greddy exhaust that sounds nice. I would guess the damage would cost 2-4k to repair fully, but I wouldn't mind driving it w/the damage since I drive in downtown DC quite often & the car would get dings/dents from the idiot drivers around here.
Still a toss up tho....GTS or beat-up WRX hrmm...

find out what it cost to fix. i would take wrx for 3k over a gts just fix it first regardless of where you drive. factory turbo and much better aftermarket support seems like a no brainer unless you want a car only a little faster than what you have now remember its a lot easier to get power out of wrx for cheap and awd is nice too. ive had a impreza 2.5rs coupe before they went to the bug eye wrx even with out turbo it was really fun to drive and reliable oh and subaru interiors are nothing special either...

That is a very good price. I would go for it and then trade the gt for a gts and build it up. ;)

he probly cooked the turbo or something. 3K for a rex? c'mon, too good a deal. even IF hes your brother in law. get it checked out.
i find this kinda funny though, you defend your slowmatic GT and then you see a cheapass WRX deal and you jump on it xD but ya, id say probly check it out. even with some bodywork needed thats not to bad, but youre pay for it with insurance and gas mileage. but then agn, turbo + AWD launchin, can't beat that.

Naw, he let me borrow it this week...so its sitting outside.. Its f'kin LOUD w/the exhaust half-missing but it pulls plenty strong, I can't tell any boost leaks at all & the engine doesn't have knock, other than sounding awesome like all boxers w/exhausts do.
I will try to take some pics but I get home too late every day & its too dark out to get good ones. + the car is pretty dirty.
The main thing I'm concerned about is the suspension..its sooo soft & it rubs in the rear when I turn. I'm worried something is bent but the mechanic he took it to to get the quote for insurance said everything was fine....other than the bodywork.
One of the first things i'm gonna address is the suspension. I am probably just gonna go with some sti pink springs (a little lower & firmer than stock sti springs) which work fine on factory struts.

Are you gonna keep teh Seeleka? That would be sweet, use ur GT as ur traffic commuter and the WRX for rippin on the weekends, track days, and snow

you cannot detect all boost leaks with your ears so i dunno how you figured it had no leaks

Same thing with knock unless it's really bad.

by watching the boost gauge needle & acceling at a constant-rate through the rev-range you can tell if there is a medium-large boost leak. miniscule leaks you probably can't using this method but major ones you can definitely tell. The needle wasn't wobbling at all when I did this half-azzed test. + the engine hadn't been touched so I'm not overly worried that the OEM subaru hoses & pipes are leak-prone VS some crap aftermarket garb that people typically put on these cars.

Miniscule leaks rob horsepower..I've seen them drop it on my OWN car by a solid 10-15 hp on a dyno..
