View Full Version : Indeglows gauges

My indeglow gauges just conked out on me. The worked fine for 6 months or so, then they went out. I checked my wiring, the inverter is getting 12 volts in, and the and the birghtness knob seems to be working too (I checked it with a multimeter) but they just don't light.

Does anyone know if it's the gauge face it's self, or the inverter that usually goes out? Are the inverters pretty much universal? Does anyone know where I might be able to pick up one?

My gauges are no-name ones I got off of e-bay, so it's not like I can go back to the manufacturer, but I really like their look better than most of the name brand ones, so I'd like to keep them if I can.

Thanks,

And you're surprised they burnt out on you??? Cheap product=cheap performance. Ya get what ya pay for. It happened to me 3 times with indiglos. I gave up.

I never said I was surprised...

I think I paid all of $40 for them, so it's not a big deal, but I do like them.

Are the more expensive ones really any better, or just more expensive?

Can anyone recommend a brand that lasts?

i don't think the expensive ones are any damn better. mine haven't had any problems though.. it seems like it'd HAVE to be the inverter, since the indiglos shouldn't really break...

That was my thought as well. I see a lot of online stores selling them for $79 - $99, and they look a whole lot like the ones on e-bay going for $30 - $45, and at least in some cases, they are the exact same thing.

Yeah my indiglos gave out now. They were working for about a year and a half. :( There is a place where you can get a seperate inverter, but you might as well buy a new cluster instead, like reverse indiglos or something. These inverters they sell are made by POS people who don't know how to make a proper transformer. Thus they fail.

Pay $100 to have a glowing APC logo on my dash all time? Sounds like a plan ;)

I checked out the power with a multi-meter, the ground and power are both good. I even checked the voltage accross the dimmer knob, it seem to be working as well. The rest of it is sealed in a block of epoxy, so there's nothing else I can check.

Yes, they were the reverse indiglo. Now the only revrse indiglos I can find are the silver faced ones that I don't like, or some really ass-ugly ones. I'm going to try a set of regular indiglos and see if they last any longer, and if those crap out on me, I guess I'm going back to the good old black and orange.

I just had my newer indiglos go out on me after two days, first set still works, and I found that it was the connection to the gauges. The wire comes in fromt the inverter/transformer or whatever and then goes to that flat part that connects to the face. When you install the gauges that flat connector piece gets bent back and caused the two wires in there to crack. The old set that I have was made much better, the connections on the flat part were wider and had a copper backing while the new one's do not. I ended opening it up with a razor blade, inserting small pieces of stripped wire, and taping it back together. Believe it or not but this worked.

Now the only problem I have with them is that the cutout for the "Cruise" light doesn't line up with the stock one. I'm thinking about cutting out a hole in the stock gauges. Anyone have an extra stock gauge face they want to get rid of??

Interesting... I'll have to check out that bend. If I can't fix it, on the next one, I'll look into reinforcing it with tape or something...
