View Full Version : every 3000 or 5000 miles ?
for :
1. oil change
2. tire rotation
on GTS ?
I used to get oil change (old car) every 3000 miles but now the Celica manual says 5000 miles. is that enough ? tire rotation used to be every 7500 miles and it seems like I need to do that every 5000 miles on Celica. Clearly I don't have $$$ to do them more often than I have to so please help.

do ur own...
i only pay for oil change since i dont feel like doing it myself.. .but rotation i do it myself..
2500 miles for my oil change and 5000 miles for rotation.
i mean.. as far as rotation goes... jack it up and change one at a time... it should save you $50 or so... for a oil change... even if u do it yourself.. it should cost you at least $10... so y go thru the hassle... take it to a shop adn they will vacumm, top off fluids and otherzz...

tire rotation, i do it every 7500 more or less....(or when i feel is time for it)....the oil i change it every 3000 miles no exeption
question
i hear about rotation for the first time
never did it in my life
what is it?
u just switch tires like front goes to back and back goes to front?
I agree - used to do oil change myself. But with the oil/filter/plug it adds up to about 20 bucks already so now I let the shop do it. So I just wanna know how often you guys do it for the Celi.
I thought about rotating the tires myself, but all rotation services say "Tire Rotation/Balance" - do I need to worry about "Balancing" ? What does that do ? Would it hurt the wheels/car in anyway if balancing is not done ?

I hope you don't buy a new plug every oil change. Dont need to unless you strip the bolt or need a new rubber gasket behind the bolthead.

Mobil 1 and OEM filter every 5000 miles; Tire rotation twice a year, spring and fall.

Even if you use synthetic, you should change your oil every 3k miles. Yes, the oil is still lubricating better than a conventional, but it gets dirty. One of the advantages of synthetic oil over conventional is it has a better ability to trap dirt and contaminants. This means it gets dirty faster. That's why you want to change it every 3k, just like conventional.

Tire rotation depends on your driving habits and the treadwear of the tires. Most Type R owners only get 10k miles out of their tires due to the soft compound the tires are made of and the amount of hard driving they do. In this case, 5k miles for a rotation is probably not frequent enough. I've got 8k miles and still haven't rotated my tires yet. The front ones aren't that much more worn than the back. I don't drive that hard.
