I've seen a lot of new stangs, I thought for sure it would make the list.

Dang! 3 Jags on the worst-selling list. That can't be good when they have 4 models. If it wasn't for the fact that the XK is new it probably would have made the list too.

Lexus should just kill off the SC430.

How did the Mitsubishi Raider stay off the worst-selling list?

Isuzu i-290/370? What is that?

I don't like how they lump the Corolla and Matrix together. A lot of publications do that (probably paid off by Toyota so they can trump the Civic sales on paper). They do share many, many components, but it is a different vehicle.
The Matrix is the Corolla wagon. In every other country it's called a Corolla wagon, except in the US it's called the Matrix. That's what I heard anyway. How is it a different vehicle?

I'm surprised the A8/S8 is on there as a worst seller. That has been one of the most under-valued exec cars since it came out and has been praised by every magazine that has done a review on it.

The SC430 on the other hand...desperately cries for a face-lift at least.

I see Pontiac G6's and Mazda 6's all over the place.

I'm surprised neither of those made the best-seller list.

Exactly. I think with the new model, they're even advertising it as a Corolla Matrix. Kinda like how they originally did with the Camry Solara (then it just went toplain Solara). It's apparently easy to fool Americans into thinking one car is completely unique by giving it a different name and lights. ;)

The Matrix is the Corolla wagon. In every other country it's called a Corolla wagon, except in the US it's called the Matrix. That's what I heard anyway. How is it a different vehicle? It's a different vehicle because it uses completely different sheet metal, and virtually none of the same interior or exterior parts. Yes the engine, drivetrain, and many other components are the same, but it is different. It's not the same as say a 5 door hatch version of the Impreza vs the 4 door sedan Impreza.

If you are going to lump the Matrix sales with Corolla sales, you might as well just throw the Vibe in there as well (it shares equally as much with the Corolla as the Matrix does).

Well of course it uses different sheet metal, it's a wagon not a sedan. Doesn't mean it's a different car. I've never seen the interiors of both so I can't attest to if they are really different or not.

The vibe and matrix are very similar but at least they are branded differently so I can see a distiction there.

Burrcold

By different sheet metal I mean that none of the sheet metal is shared (i.e. fenders, hood, doors, roof, etc). Again let's use the Impreza as an example; the wagon and sedan share the same hood, fenders, doors. The only difference is the rear of the vehicle, and extended roof line.

I do agree that they share enough components that the Matrix SHOULD be considered the Corolla Wagon. But they are distinct enough (and branded differently from Toyota) that they should not be looked at as one vehicle (from a sales perspective).

Hmm, possibly. But like I said, it is true there is no Matrix in other countries, just a Corolla wagon? They probably lump it together so it's consistent, since they'd be counting the "Matrix" in other countries, all but the US.

with regards to the comments that consumers see the American makes as less reliable and low quality, that's not the problem at all.

The problem is American manufacturers make ****ty cars that drive like ****, have poor styling, and no brand image whatsoever.

The A8 is good car but a crapfest compared to the S class and the 7 series.

Anything is better than i-Drive :D
I still hate it, even though I've had to use it on occasion for the past 2 years.

but you can get the A8 as an S8 - BMW has no competitor
and while M-B has an AMG version, there is no diesel, as you can get in the A8 (and which was hilarious to watch on Top Gear as Clarkson rung every last MPG out of the thing).

Yeah I remember that episode back in 04. I'd be nice to have that A8... V8 twin turbo diesel.

The S63/S8 are very low volume cars. Those who can afford them do not care much about fuel economy.

MB has BlueTec, a competition to the VW's TDI. Both companies were partnering to popularize diesel in the US but broke due to VW's refusal to give up the TDI badge. Bluetec is said to be integrated into the AMG vehicles.

The S class is more refined, the 7 series is more sporty, the A8 (while a good car) does not stand out.

The A8 does stand out, it got much higher (underdog) ratings. It all comes down to brand image- that's the reality.

yeah, i've never driven an a8 but I've been inside of one and it was quite nice - I wouldn't discount it.

of course in that category I would choose the s-class, because, well, ****, its an S-class!
