My friend has an 02 wrx and iam tryerd of geting smoked. i have $1500 to work with, what would be the best way to go so that i can not get my ass handed to me as bad. ive already got a aem cai and the trd exhaust but iam looking for a little more power. I want to do the whole exhaust, iam looking for a cheap header that will give decent performance. also does removing the resonator make any power and or make it louder?

PFC, PPE header and straight pipe to your trd exhaust.

where can i get a ppe header and how much would it cost. also how should i got about straight piping it, should i just go to my local muffler shop or is someone making them and shipping them out?

i recommend going to a muffler shop and having them fabricate a custom exhaust, try to find a shop that can do mandrel bends rather then crush bends. i believe there's a group buy for the PPE header..i think its pretty pricey..not sure, havent checked it out >_<

No...he wouldn't...they are incredibly PISS slow...not as slow as the GTS no...But still they aren't some street monster...They do 14's stock..trapping around 94-96 ish...So a PFCed celica could walk one pretty hard on a roll and if his driving is on par, even beat one from a dig.

Jeez, I thought LIFT woulda been a little competitive to a turbocharged boxer.

Let's examine the facts here:
- AWD vs FWD. Unless you've got a quick feet and l33t shifting skills, the launch is not in your favor.
- He's making about 60 more HP than you, BUT most stock WRX's I've driven in suffer from teh lag. If he's running a MBC, forgetaboutit.
- Can't really get a whole hellovalot outta bolt-ons. I've seen go-cart B16's hold their own against a WRX, but if the Scooby's got mods, its usually a blowout.

I'd say just go nice with an exhaust and short ram intake. You've got a nice lil Yamaha 1.8 in there. The whole straight-pipe thing works great if you're running a turbo, but personally, just unbolt the freakin resonator. I know that I'll get flamed for that but I've seen a few kids do it to their GTS' and it sounds pretty hilarious at LIFT mode. But thats just my opinion. What the hell do i know.

WRX makes like 220 hp...GTS is 180...how is that 60 hp?? looks like 40 to me...

There is no lag on the small turbo that those cars run...have you driven one?? Do you know what actual turbo lag is??

And straight pipes work great for all motor cars as well..the less bends the better...plain and simple. Where'd you get your "facts" from?

Also aside from the magazine numbers... WRX dynos at like what 180ish whp?? GTS 160ish whp?? They aren't that far apart in terms of raw power output in stock trim...it certainly isn't 60hp

iam not looking to beat my buddy i just want to be able to see his tail lights from time to time. hes got a computer and a full exhaust so the only way i could beat him is for me to buy some kind of force induction and i dont have the money for that right now. i would love to buy a pfc if they wernt a grand

PFC's are not a grand, but in the end you pay more than a grand with the datalogic(350) for data logging and dyno time to fine tune. Your best bet to hang with your boys WRX is to get a PFC, read up in the ECU forum on how to street tune your car(cheaper than dyno tuning from scratch) If you are not person that is willing to spend hours reading and learning how to tune, then your pretty much SOL. If you have 1500 to work with, buy a PPE header ~500, get a muffler shop to decat/straight pipe to your TRD exhaust ~250, now you have 750 to play with. You can get a PFC for around 650-750 nowa days. Or you can go with nitrous(i do not recommend) but it will give you that extra bang for your buck. Do not go with anything over a 75 shot, a Zex or NX kit will cost you around 500. So now what, you have like 250 left, use that for dyno time.

IMO get a PFC 750, PPE header 500, striaght pipe/decat from a exhaust shop 250. There is your 1500, and save up about another 500 for dyno time after you get it all installed. Instalilng a header on the celica is kinda involved unless you have the tools and mechanic knowledge to do so. So to have the header installed professionally will cost ya. good luck, and happy motoring

Yea thanks everyone youve been alot of help. i think i know the direction i want to take now, and even if i never get my car as fast as the wrx ill always know that my celica looks 10 times better.
