I have a GT auto and, I started it off in first then put it into 2nd then drive and i was going about 60mph and by accident I pushed it into neutral and the I passed on the gas and the rpms got up to about 3 or alittle more and then I slammed it back into drive and passed on the gas hard. Did I mess up anything you guys think? My car is running find just wondering though.

Oh, I've done 4-5 neutral drops in my car and everything has been fine. Automatic trannys are pretty bulletproof from my experience with them.

yeah but they're not idiot proof...

i used to do neutral drops in my 98 maxima SE... 2 months before the lease was over in april of last year the tranny died... 47,000 miles into its sh1tty short lived life...

I apologize guys, I phrased my reply poorly. The way I should have said it was that I had done a few, don't plan on doing anymore now that I know it isn't good for the car (when I found this out I was so worried since I had done it like 4-5 times), and that my car works fine, so this guy shouldn't have much to worry about. Especially since he did it while moving. I did some of mine from a dead start. And as far as neutral drops in reverse, that is the dumbest thing you can ever do, even with a stick it's risky.

now u got those "what if" questions running around now..

Not really, if something does happen, I have my car on extended warranty. Anyways, I have seen some people do neutral drops by mistake, I did it once in my old Explorer, and nothing happened to their transmissions. And anyways, no point in asking 'what if' since there is nothing I can do about it now.

if you do it while in motion it's not as bad. don't do it often though.

but if you do it from a stop, that's a lot worse. i tried it once at the track, at 3000rpm, the car just jumped forward and the RPMs fell back down and it looked like i stalled, heh. i asked some other people in GTS Automatics, and they got the same thing...i don't think you can properly neutral drop this car unless you try it at high rpm or something. and i wasn't about to drop that thing at 5000rpm.

ehhe, i did the neutral drop in my old 300zx, about 5-6months later... transmission. and nissan said the 90-96 autotransmission were bullet-proof also. drop the trany before i sold it, 3 bearing had explodied. you'll know if your having problems. if it stays in gear for a long time, and if the car makes a thumming noise when it shift, there's problems...

figures doesn't it :) damn lack of low end.

someone should do it once at the track. drop it at 5000rpm. you'll destroy your car but maybe it'll keep running enough for the entire 1/4 and you can pull off the fastest auto 1/4 evar

You can't neutral drop this car... when you try from a stop it'll cut the rpms back down and then start, which looks like a stall....

if you get the car going and then push it into neutral, gas it, then into gear again you'll catch a nice wheel.... BUT BE WARNED- i did probably 2 neutral drops from a stop and 20ish drops at 15mph, and at 30k miles the auto tranny went out.

As soon as i got it back it was sold for a 5spd...
