I'm looking for brakes offered in the Toyota/Lexus models for an OEM upgrade. Anyone know of any that is either 2 or 4 piston front calipers? Preferably 2 piston.

Here is what I have so far worth mentioning...

1993-1998 Toyota Supra TT (4 piston) - would be the cheapest to get
2006+ Lexus IS350/GS350 (4 piston) - expensive but easiest to find
2007 Toyota Tundra (4 piston) - rotors too big
2008 Toyota Land Cruiser (4 piston)
2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser (4 piston)

Cross referencing through some part numbers, it seems that the Toyota and Lexus models that uses the single floating calipers are all shared and the same for the 4 piston fixed calipers.

Why not just get a legitimate big brake kit setup? If you wanna upgrade your brake setup why not go with something that's been R&D'd to retain brake balance?

I've thought about that. I want to gather information since I like to research and learn things instead of being told whatever is available is best. I am the type who would build a car up with his bare hands instead of paying a bit extra to have someone do it for me (which I did). Toyota's brake system for the cars I'm thinking of isn't all that complicated. If anyone can understand the BBK they would understand the key components are pretty universal.

What I want to do is upgrade the brakes for a 2007 Camry LE, I rather not fork over more money than I have to when I could do it for cheap. I've priced some front Brembo (4 piston) calipers and they should be around ~300-400 dollars (used, plan on rebuild depending on condition). I can or have someone custom fab mounting brackets and if needed, an adjustable proportional valve. If successful I can provide an alternative to the BBK for cheaper than the asking price for the premade BBK (goal of less than $750 for 4 piston fronts, pads, rotors and mounting brackets). Its no biggie if no one is interested, just want to find out if anyone know of any Toyota or Lexus models that came with 2 piston front calipers.

mmm all i know is some of the BBK use ST205 brakes and i think ive heard that IS300 brakes could be used as well.

I have heard of guys using NSX brakes on their Civics...

weren't you just bashing someone for wanting a big brake set in another thread just a few days ago?

Honestly I don't think cheaping out on something so vital to the car's handling behavior, as well as your only other means of preventing an accident is a good idea. Sure I respect the fact that you want to do something new but I think going with something like...let's say StopTech has already been tested on a track to provide much better than OEM braking capabilities as well as maintaining a proper amount of front/rear braking bias. I've seen a few people run "off-setted" setups but these are only on "race-only" vehicles. As a matter of fact some searching on this website has shown some examples of why messing with brake bias is a bad thing; as the result of that has become sleeping in a box 6 feet under. So here's the warning, but good luck with your build. And I don't reccomend the Lexus IS350 calipers to go with a Camry. The IS350 front calipers have too much braking force in the front, not enough rear bias- has resulted in a few near-accidents for myself personally.

Yes, this is true. But here's the thing you don't know. They were doing NSX front caliper conversions on Civics with rear DRUM brakes. Guess what happened shortly after. There are a few Type R people that track pretty often with a NSX caliper/Legend rotor setup. They say the brake balance is pretty neutral for the Type R due to its particular handling characteristics. But keep in mind Celicas and Camrys are not the Integra Type R.

Thanks for your concern, I am aware of the differences of the braking proportions. That is why I mentioned the adjustable proportional valve. Yes I've looked at all the different aspects of upgrading the calipers. Everyone's driving/handling/braking characteristics differ, even with the track proven kits (which are pretty much universal as I've said) you can still lose control. Being wrapped around a pole is for someone that doesn't know the car's limitations. I can just about say upgrading the rear sway bar can do the same. But I know that its because people "think" their car can handle better and make faster turns.

But keep in mind, during conservative braking not all pistons are in operating mode.

What car was upgraded to the IS350 calipers? I know they are direct swap to one of my daily driver the IS250.

Haven't have time yet but does anyone know if the IS300 brakes are dual pistons front? And possibly any other car that comes with 2 piston front calipers from the Toyota/Lexus family?

I think mr2 turbo comes with dual front piston calibers?

our cars arent heavy enough or fast enough to merit a big brake kit IMO
i think what this guy wants to do is a pretty good idea
the celica communitiy is to flashy and too willing to fork over money rather than creat and build things of their own.

That's good, I was hoping that you wouldn't be one of those "noobs" that do stupid things like that. This forum is infested with them. But yes, I missed the part with the adjustable prop valve- thinking ahead (GOOD!)

As for the IS350, I have one in the family- I use it whenever my Audi is in the shop being worked on or prototyping for something or another. It has heavily front biased braking force- yes it's good for late braking and helping to take weight off the rear for the initial turn in...but at the same time it's even too much force for stopping the heavy IS350 so I've slid forward a few times in it even with the ABS on.

I'm not sure if the IS300 front brakes would fit on...but I do know that a lot of IS300 people like to do the MKIV Supra front 4 piston conversions.
