I remember when you change the whole face plate of the gauges (mph and everything) to the TRD ones for 500bucks it resets it..

if im not mistaken thats a felony offense, and will get you into some serious trouble if you ever get caught. That is serious fraud when you sell the car and youre asking for it big time. Very stupid thing to do imo

:ugh: who would want TRD gauges if they first lower the mileage to 0, and then it disables a whole bunch of stuff on the car?? seems like a total waste of 500 bucks you could much more wisely spend on something else...

i know a way of doing it by simpling breaking a prong off of a fuse this was posted a while back i have the pic some where

i dunno about resetting but i know how to stop it from running.... you simply disconnect the fuse underneath the battery right abouve the tranny.... for GT-S your vvtl-i will not kick in but for GT, it runs fine with CEL... you will need to know someone with scanner to reset your ECU, otherwise you are phucked...

u need a scanner to reset the ECU? why can't u just disconect the battery?

Another reason not to try to reset your odometer (unless I'm wrong, in which case, shoot me):

I believe the ECU also keeps track of your mileage, so if you somehow mucked with the odometer in the dash, there will be a discrepancy between the ECU and odometer, and that would raise a red flag if anybody decided to check it at a dealership. For instance, if you get a TRD gauge cluster I think you are supposed to have it installed at a dealership so they can fill out some paperwork marking the exact mileage you had at the point when you had them installed.

Trust me, not a good idea. If you take your car to the dealership for service, and the gauges say you have some obscenely low mileage count, the dealership will look at their computers most likely and see that the number on your odometer is not correct.

well doesnt the engine block keep track of the mileage as well as the ecu...so if the ecu is disconnected, the engine blocks odometer still ticks...right?

exactly and thats the form I never got to fill out.. I was screwed

but the ECU doesn't record mileage... unless you throw off a code in which it puts in in freeze frame along with speed and all that other info it gets from the combination meter... .

i remember hearing about larry's sh1t... i believe that was how he got on their sh1t list... or they got on his.....

Disconnecting battery will not reset ECU for this reason.... It is not like you got an CEL due to CAI... you actually pulled the fuse out and the CEL will not go away unless you scan the ECU with the correct tool...

My friend did his already... and currently my ODO is not working either... I am pluggin it back next week and turn off the CEL as well.. Now i dunno how to explain this in real good details...

Better yet after reading the previous posts, how are you going to explain it to a dealer? Sounds like a warranty disaster waiting to happen. Or are you saying the ECU can be reset with the proper tool and instructions and you know someone from Toyota who will do it for you?

Uhhmmm,
I hate to break it to you, but you already have proof (or at least info pointing to you about doing this) by posting on this page. Do you think the only people reading/monitoring the stuff on this site are the administrators and the members? It's kinda like saying "Bomb" in an airport. Even though you don't have plans to blow up a plane, if you're heard...you'll still be questioned and have you're name written down somewhere as a potential threat. Be careful what you joke about, that's all. Odometer fraud isn't a topic to joke about either, especially if a future NCOrg. member buys your car and finds out.
