View Full Version : VIP security system
I am getting a 2002 gt-s with vip security system. The salesperson told me that it did not include entry-detection as part of the package. Apparently, it would just disable the ignition (or whatever). Does this make sense? After reading articles on the VIP RS series for 2002 toyota's I'm under the impression they all have entry-detection.
Thanks.
Since I first posted about VIP security system I have called the dealership and now I've found out that the system is NOT A VIP RS SERIES. Apparently, this is some kind of passive security system that is supposed to be "built into" the car. It was suspicious to me that the dealer couldn't (wouldn't?) tell me exactly what make/model of system it would be. This system has no entry-detection, it just prevents theft by dis-engaging the fuel system and ignition (or something like that).
Assuming the system is as he said, should I consider having another security system installed? I would like something that sounds an alarm and flashes lights if an intruder smashes a window or otherwise enters my car. If I was to have a system installed by a reputable shop, would I have any problems having two systems (the pre-installed one and the other one)? Will I have to carry around 2 remotes?
What about "dummy" LED's and stickers? Do they deter break-ins at all?
Finally, the shops around my city (London, Ontario, Canada) seem to use a lot of the CodeAlarm products. Are these reputable systems? I am also considering a "Club".
Any advice would be great. My car will be stored in a locked garage at my home but when I go out, I'd like some added protection.
Thanks!

Sounds like your dealer has installed their standard 70 dollar don't steal it from the lot special. If he wants to throw it in for free take it, otherwise tell him to take it off and buy your own.
