sorry for the noob question but i want to replace the front speakers without having to buy a new amp. i have a gt with stock speakers. an aftermarket HU and an amp to power my sub. my HU only puts out like 35w x 4. so if i get some new speakers with an rms around that range.. will getting new speakers help out the mids and highs at all? any suggestions on speakers?

sorry if this doesnt help but i just recently put in my front components on my car and for some reason they are clearer then my stock but my stock are louder :( also i just installed some pretty high end jl rear speakers and the same result..... really clear but stocks are louder... so if u want a slight decrease in how loud they are to make up for being clear then i would buy some............my entire setup is jl :) but i was kinda dissapointed in how my stocks where louder unless i installed them wrong lol...but i hope i kinda helped.........

well i only wanna clear up the mids and highs because i already have a sub. Now, by not loud do you mean the bass doesn't bump or do you actually have to turn the volume up louder to hear them? what kind of speakers did you get btw and what kind of headunit are you using?

replacing the stock speakers will help if you have a new headunit

Your headunit probably puts out 35x4 max.. so your looking at like.. say 15x4 rms.. but you can put in any speakers that arent high end and be fine. they will be clearer but not as loud as crystal said.

Good luck.

What's the best stock replacement for the front speakers? Without changing amp, head unit and such..

oh you're right i think they are 35x4 max. well that sux.. maybe i should just look for a decent amp.

would you say changing all four speakers is unnecessary? will changing the front two be good enough?

front 2 will be good enough. Just get something thats small and you can stick under the front seats.. and conceal it. Hell if you wanna do all 4 speakers do that same with the rears and just get a second amp.

when replacing the stock speakers..after drilling out the rivets, will the speaker mount back up in the same spot or would you need to cut out a wood mount for it?

You can order mounts from Crutchfield for about 20 bucks or less and they come in handy You will need an amp for almost any new speakers you get . I recommend getting components for the front and not worring about the back. Then get a small amp like they said that you can hide away some where for them. I have the Infinity components and they are great. I have a phoenix gold 4 channel amp with I believe 70 RMS and run them to the front two and I have infinity 6.5 in the rear. Sound very clear and very loud. 4 speakers and 4 channel amp ran me about $280 total. Drop the rear speakers and the 4 channel to a 2 channel and you could get it done for abour $175 I say!

If I remember right, stock speakers are 2 ohm? Less resistance = more power to the speakers.

hmm great ideas guys. thanks! i was looking at some power acoustick 2 channel amps on ebay. some of them could be had for around 60 bux. i suppose if i could keep it below $150 then that would be cool. the cheaper the better. i checked and i think my HU is 4x20 rms.

i'm not looking for an amazing system. just want to clean up the mids and the highs. seems like the newer cars these days have systems that sound much better than our cars stock system.

whats the advantage of components over like a 3 way speaker? is it for imaging?
