1. Dodge Ram 1500
MSRP: $37,105 (2WD MegaCab Laramie)
Vincentric Market Price: $29,947
Initially overpriced by: $7,158
J.D. Power APEAL: 2.5 stars
CR Owner Satisfaction: worse than average
As is the case for all the full-size pickups from Detroit's Big Three, the Ram 1500 isn't selling as well as in years past, even with the fuel-saving Multi-Displacement (MDS) system included with the Hemi V-8. You can expect a top-of-the-line model to lose more than $20,000 of its MSRP value in the first year alone.

lol only 2 aren't domestic
where's the RX8???
you can buy a brand new RX-8 for $21,500 with the $3500 incentive
that costs less than a Civic SI, GTI, most Celica GT-Ss and a few GTs, most Miatas and god knows how much longer I could make the list - and it blows all those cars away in a drag race and a track sprint - the RX-8 is a STEAL - its a VALUE - you're getting a car as fast as an E46 M3 ($55,000) or 350Z ($30,000) for the low low twenties

good call..although not brand new, i've seen some ones that are about two years old going for 25,000, the touring ones, with the heated seats/navi, all that. great bang for the buck

Then you woke up...
350z 07 mid to lower 13's
M3 mid 13's
Rx8 (I don't give a **** what you want to think)... low 15's to mid 14's. An Rx8 wouldn't break into the 13's with Schumaucher behind the god damned wheel..

Oh and just to beat Marc to the punch. The RX8, 350z and E46 M3 all run the same lap times.

You sure? I dont think it was clear to some people on here...
Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Mazda have to buy back Rx-8's b/c people were not satisfied with them and Mazda OVERRATED the car? Im pretty sure this is a TRUTH
As for the 15 Most Overpriced Cars...Im really surprised by some of those cars and i wonder how forbes placed them. Does forbes take into account popularity b/c the Ford F-150 and the Ford Explorer have been one of the most sold cars in the past few years. I mean...everyone i know who wants a truck would die to get a F150. Im from NY and SouthFlorida and those 2 cars are seen everywhere

Speed - A measure of straight line acceleration, braking power, cornering grip, and transitional balance

Then your TRUTH is wrong
Mazda OFFERED to buy back cars because they misrated the horsepower using the Japanese figure - the same thing they did with the Miata, quoted acceleration numbers were identical to real world performance - and in both instances almost nobody returned the car, because people who buy Miatas and RX-8s don't really give a damn about HP ratings.
lVlemphizStylez
01-06-2008, 03:24 PM
yea...those that bought the Rx7 and lined up for the Rx8 really didn't give a **** about HP...
and read your own definition of speed...I'd say you conveniently left out the straight line acceleration part...

If you are going to use that site to compare...
The Z is faster on 9 out of the 11 tracks, and wins the comparison as well.

The Rx8 is a joke of a sports car in the acceleration department and can barely get out of it's own way...accept it..

it looks nice tho! i mean looking at it i think it would be fast. sadly looks are deceiving. would have been amazing if they made it as a sequel to the rx7

No offense, but grow some balls, and take some turns at high speeds without crashing. It's much more fun than going fast in a straight line.

mazda should somehow modify the rotary engine to make it fuel efficient, then i would consider one.

the new rotary is direct injected - more power and better fuel economy

That's your opinion...and I don't need a 30k car that coughs and wheezes beyond 60mph to do that (money can be FAR BETTER SPENT)...I can go pick up a 10k Miata and get a similar experience. To legally (key word) autocross/circuit race your car is FAR more expensive than a saturday on the 1320. I'm not to going to engage in a high speed turn on a public road...

A) You've never been reading a god damned thing. The RX-8 costs $21,500 - that's less than most sport compacts, which it can lay a beating on with ease, and the aftermarket for the car is CHEAP
B) A day at the track is $100 - $250, that's expensive (but worth it, because that includes instruction - the best mod you can make to a car is the driver). However, autocross is cheap - $20-$40. Most straight line tracks cost just as much, but are 10 times as boring.

MSRP 26500-31000....yea 30k car, I'm not talking about the deal you get from Uncle Jimbo..
I pay 15-20 for a day at the drag strip...Not to mention, the brake pads and tires you go through for regular circuit racing and auto-crossing. I don't know how you just assume I've never tried auto-cross. It's more expensive and costs more to maintain a car for it than drag racing. Tires deplete quicker, so do brakes. I'm sorry, it's a more expensive hobby

I go through about 60% of a set of brake pads and 75% of a set of tires per year autocrossing and I do more events than most.

A) Only suckers pay MSRP, and only people who pay MSRP quote car prices in MSRP
B) There is a $3500 incentive on the car

 Oh well.
Taking high speed turns on the street IS bad, but so is speeding in a straight line. Both will have their risks, but one can give you fun UNDER the speed limit. My stage 2 cobalt SS buddy first words after driving my car was "it's a fun car to drive", versus his car "not being fun" to drive.
+1 for handeling.
Anyway...I miss my dodge dakota sometimes :( that was a good pickup truck...no matter how ****ty it was...

I agree that the RX-8 is a good car. I thought the MR2-Spyder had too little power to but as I have learned, you can add power to a weak car, but you can't put good suspension geometry and handling on a car that doesn't come with it (not to say handling can't be improved, but only so much can be done).

You have obviously no clue what you are talking about here. I have a set of tires that I only autocross on and I will wear them out in a year with 8

Only if you're being obtuse.
It's clearly not a 30k car because that's not what anyone pays for it.

Thats because you only use them for 12-13 seconds and then sit around for an hour.

Hence Edmund's True Market Value - which he can't seem to grasp because he probably thinks you just pay whatever the dealer tells you to pay him and that's that.
