Hi guys, What is the best setup. Im gonna change my wholeeeee suspension. I want some coil overs to lower my ride, and some great shocks/struts that can handle a drop while still maintain comfort. (daily driven car)
What im trying to do is get coil overs that would make the car go real low. The lowest coil over drop they have. which is the best for that. aofcourse without hurting the shocks, espcially while driving on freeway...
I say loooowww cause I would like to drop it real low in a car show.
and I would like it to be or atleast come close to stock height so that I can raise it back up after done, since theres lots of bumps in san diego lol.
hope this makes sence to you guys. thanks in advance

When you get coilovers they actually replace the struts and springs so you dont need to buy shocks/struts.

oh ok sorry lol. i thought the coil overs are only the springs. and then the shocks is its own thing lol. obviously i need more knowledge. which is why im here lol.
so then that being said, which is the best brand that I can buy that would give me a great deal of lowering while im at a show. and then adjust it back up to stock so that i can ride back home without hitting too much bumps.
Sorry i didnt know coil overs is the whole suspension as you mention. cause i saw lots of threads where every one is getting this shocks with another brand set of springs. maybe thats just lowering kit, not actual coil overs??

i did my shocks and struts with new springs a while back and I have regretted not doing coilovers ever since. Depending on your availible cash I would look at Megan coilovers or D2 coilovers. If you have some extra change the best for the buck Id say is the Tanabe Pro S-S type II coilovers.
good luck.

Best possible:
KW Variant 2s (if they fit)
Hotchkis Comp rear sway (front is optional really)
Decent tires
Rear 3 point strut tower brace (a front strut tower brace does very little)

I saw other threads with comparisons between konis and the varient.. ummm soo many people where leaning towards the konis. and I didnt state it earlier, but My car is just street driven. nothing like tracks and all that and i cant even afford to go that far right now lol. soo i heard konis would give me that comfy ride.. umm so if someone can please tell me which ones should i go for. the konis or the tein ss that fastcelica suggested.

If you do a shock and spring combo the system wont be adjustable so youll have just one height all the time. If you coilover you can adjust the height. If your looking to stay cheap then go eibach sportline springs and tokico blues. This will give you the low drop look all the time. If you want a mild drop go with tokico blues and tein s-tech springs. If you want your suspension system to be adjustable with height then go Megan Coilovers.

ok fastcelica, so at the other post you said go tein ss, and now your saying go megan.
Oh and by the way im definitly going for coil overs. As i stated i wanted to drop it during shows and what not. then raise it when i drive because of bumps.
I think you gave me megan now, because i didnt make myself clear. When i meant i dont go that far right now. I wasnt talking about price if maybe thats what you thought lol. I meant track and all that.
Ofcourse i want something real good reliable and worthwhile with the performance it provides
So sorry if I had giving some confusions.

You confused me when you started talking about Koni's and Tein S.Techs because those are shocks and springs not coilovers. In my first post I basically said that Megan coilovers or D2 would be the best coilovers to go with if you want to spend under 1,000 dollars. Best bang for the buck. If you can spend a little more the Tanabe Pro-SS type II would be a good buy. If you can spend near 2 grand I would look at the JIC Coilovers.
If I personaly were buying Id buy the Megans. They are a good price. They are good quality. They have 32 level dampening, and they are front camber adjusters (pillow ball mounts). For $895 shipped I think that is a fantastic deal.
Something these have that a lot of others dont is adjustable dampening at the top of the mount. This is very convenient and easy.

Thank you fastcelica. That megan sounds really goood. and sorry for confusing you lol. Im pretty new to these things lol. Yeah that megan sounds really good and saved me lots of money compared to 1500 or above. So I'll be going for that.. Hey I sent you a PM if you dont mind. Need help with something.
thank you again.

Ok guys what do you people think out of those 3 choices fastcelica gave me??
Megan racing coilovers
D2 Coil overs
tanabe pro ss type 2
or........
JIC magic (FLT-TAR series)
which is around $2000. but sounds really good in a way that i can lower the car from .5 to 2.5'' without having to adjust the dampening. So i will still have smoooth ride, and I wont have to keep messing with the dampner. and its parts seems strong and reliable.

Tein coilovers are fine. There are different levels of Teins like the basics, SS, Flex. The Tein Flex coilovers are great but the basics and SS are not as good. The SS and the basics are fine for a daily driven car but if you are into auto X or road racing the won't last like say a ground control/Koni yellow setup.

I've made up my mind. I'm going with JIC magic coil overs. There nice and its pricey but hey thats what i get for turning my car into a show car for the near future lol. and anyways im just gathering info now and making a parts list, so you guys wont see pix for long while. probably more like towards the end of the year. I got couple other things need to take care of, fiance lol etc etc. so right now just gather my parts list and saving up. thanks guys

wow that was a good answer I appreciate that. Im looking at the SS-P to daily drive. I really want Tein only because they have EDFC

EDFC is next to useless for 99% of people and usually they ride around all day with the wrong valving because they feel the need to change it to justify the cost of the EDFC.

Please do not buy JICs. on of my best friends is sponsored by them, it took them about 2 years to revalve his coilovers and send them back, in the meantime he found a much faster setup. When he did have the JICs they never adjusted properly and the collar was always stuck.
I also saw an FLT-A2 snap in half at an autocross last year. The walls of the strut tubes are about as thick as a coke can.

WoW........... So umm what you think about the megan coil overs??? that was my first choice... I heard its the best bang for the buck.... Agree??? and ummm your post from a while back says get KW varients. but I dont think they have that for my car i cchecks. so what you think about the megan coilovers??

I would rather have tein basics than the megan coilovers. I haven't known anyone who has been happy with them, they're basically a cheap "mystery valved" shock with a spring attached. They do basically nothing to the shock from car to car so it's guaranteed to be valved improperly. Tein actually does research. They look nice but the welds on them suck too.

Is there any other coil overs that you would consider, that was made for celica ofcourse, a list maybe that would be your number one choice up to numboer 3 or 5? i just wanna research, cause i saw some threads where people dont like tien. i thought i saw one saying where someone said the bolts was weak I think.

D2's are popular here. They should do everything you need them for and more

Hmmm. Im not sure I agree with that. Tein basics are notorious for being crap. You have to watch out because people tend to assume because a product doesnt cost $2000+ dollars it must be crap. Fact is megan makes fantastic parts I know 240sx owners who drift with the megans, WRX owners who autox with them and have never heard of any problems whatsoever.

Here are a few discussions and reviews I found right off the bat. The last two have an install with pics.
If your looking to spend a bunch on coilovers then there is also Zeal coilovers, B&G coilovers, c-one coilovers, or kw variant II coilovers.
