ive only been to one sound competition before and it was pretty boring. it was an iasca thing at a sound advice. but i wanna start entering my car for SQL just to see how my system ranks up against others. im wondering how the competitions work and what i gotta do? thanks!

go to iasca.com
they have a rule book there
also try www.sounddomain.com (my first home) in the forums
that setup sounds good, i would stick with SQ though, that 1 jlw0 isnt gonna compete in class 1 for spl
also, the w0 isnt really an SQ woofer, but nonetheless i suppose you can try. my girl has 2 12w0's in her car and i dont think they have good SQ, and ive been to many sound contests
good luck

thanks for the reply. the 12w0 is just a temporary sub until i can get enough money to get an eclipse aluminum 12 and another amp. i dont plan on competing spl at all since im not real hardcore about hardhitting bass. i'll check out the sites. thanks again!

Sorry to piggyback on this tread, but I am also curious about this kind of stuff. The system in my car seems pretty loud to me and I would like to get started in this kind of thing but have absolutely ZERO knowledge of what to do or how to get started. db Drag, SQ measurements, and such.
I have 2 pair of polk EX3560 components
3 JL 12w6's
PPI PCX2200
PPI PCX480
plus I am thinking of adding a para EQ once I get some more money, maybe this will help out with SQ.
If I am wasting my time, let me know. My free time activities have slowed down and am just looking for something new and would appreciate some construtive criticism.
Thanks

yar, im had 2 12w6's in sealed box that hit 144.7db, hell i have the measurement framed!
southern, it looks good, what do you have as headunit?
this hobby gets VERY expensive, i think more so than appearance mods on celicas - most peeps that are REALLY into competitions have DVDs and 5.1 surround and all that gnarly stuff
i say just make your system sound good, i grew out off bass recently, so im primarily working on an SQ setup, but i dont want to make kickpanels or anything anymore . . . too time consuming

I have a pioneer p8200, I know I could do better but it has unclipped 4.8V outputs and an aux input and that was all I wanted, I figured that I would add a retractable monitor and PS2 this winter. I have done a little bit of research about SQ and man that sound like a lot of work, but probably rewarding. 144? I'd frame that too. In my Z28 I had 3 10W6's with the old PPI A600.2 and people said that it should be around 135-140 but never put it on the meter, it was basically for my own personal enjoyment (loud = good), and I know that this new setup is louder. Guess I should get off my butt and take it somewhere.
Well not to take anything from you tlminh, much props on the 144 I know it would make me smile. If I was gonna head towards better SQ where would you start?

Yea this stuff does get expensive. Ive spent more on my system than my brother has in his living room and he's running onkyo, yamaha, and kef stuff. My car and his living room sound better than (IMO) than most movie theatres. But i dont see myself getting so into it that i have to have custom kick panels made just for a better score. I just want it to sound really good and it does. Im just curious of how this setup ranks up there with other people.
