I had just bought my '00 Celica GT on Friday. I dropped the car off at the gas station across from my school on Monday morning to have a Maryland State Inspection done. When I went to pick my car up after school the guy told me that his tech had taken the car out for a

That really bites. I've gotten to the point where I just won't leave my car at a shop unattended.

Call the county prosecutor and find out if a test drive is part of the Maryland State inspection.

The shop ought to be paying for all repairs, not your insurance.

You should also think about getting a lawyer. It is reasonable to sue the shop for the depreciation, and inconvienience.

In Jersey it's by law that the tech test drive the car for state inspection...

I work part time at a gas station...hehehe free gas and free mech work...

took an X5 an M3 a few benz and the viper my friend drove I don't drive stick too well heehhee....

the X5 is a very good SUV....oh yeah took an escalade once..very good truck...hehehee

but yeah..the shop should be paying for all damages and you can always sue them.

In north carolina they do not drive the car. It is just a visual safety inspection and idle emissions test.

If they had to drive the car and I watched someone drive the manual transmission car poorly, that would be the end of the test, they wouldn't get out of the parking lot before I demaded a different driver.

I spoke with my lawyer and he said that all we can do is have them pay for all the repairs. I don't get anymore money for the depreciation in value, which really sucks. The front bumper needs to be replaced also. I'm going to have he repairs done at a Toyota dealership and was wondering if I can put the stock TRD action package front bumper on?? I wonder if their insurance would know the difference (at least something good would come out of all this).

Damn man, that is total bs! There has to be something more you can do than just get it fixed. That is complete neglect and abuse of your property. IF you can't do anything else about this, then I would definitely at least beat this kid down. Period.

BS, talk to multiple lawyers, what I have found is that a lot of lawyers just dont' give a crap when you call them, look specifically for traffic lawyers and compenstation in the yellow pages. There is no way there is nothing you can do. Call a bunch of them, start a list and go with the best one, even if one is a little expensive it will be worth it to have an actual new car again.

Yes I totally agree, that is total BS that they can't pay for the depreciation since they caused it. I would be mad as F*ck if this happened to me  . You can't just let it go at that......

Sue them HARD. You should find out if it's a part of your inspection that someone takes your car out for a test drive. I'm sure that if police were at the scene of the accident, they would have been able to gauge how fast the car was going. Not only would it be theft / joyriding, it would be speeding and reckless driving.

Sue them for the depreciation of the car, the damage and... mental stress. Get a rental car and have them compensate for that too. Just keep looking or a lawyer until you get one who sings your song. There's one out there, there always is.

As a sidenote to this, there has to be witness's right? If this little prick was driving like a moron, that is total negligence on his part, and his employer. Wow. This is terrible, I hope everything works out for you. Find out if there were witness's, then ask them questions, my bet is this little cocksucker was roddin this piss outta your car. YOU CANNOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS. take them down:mad:

maryland state inspection requires road test. i'd sue them, just get it in front of a jury. also, report them to the MD state police, better business bureau, start picketing them, write to every newspaper. there should be an investigation by the state police, find witnesses. they'll want to settle most likely. 18 grand won't be worth all the business and lawyer fees they'll have to pay.

I am still trying to get my dedcutible back from Al Hendrickson Toyota in Coconut Creek Fla.. i had my car there because the steering wheel would jump out of my hand when i braked, or accelerated hard, sometimes when simply changing lanes. i told thiem it made a noise. they gave me the "canno duplicate customer complaint" BS. so anyways a month later, i loose control of the car. i take it to another toyota dealership, and some of the bolts in the front suspension were loose, causing the car to jerk. now i went to those bastards, and they wont claim responsibility, meanwhile it could have been avoided if they had competant people working there. ya know. so i am trying to sue their ass. i just havent been keeping up with it, i have school full time and i am in orlando, and that dealerhsip i am tryint to get money from in in S. Fla.. i hate bastards!

Wow I cant imagine some stranger taking my car out for an inspection. In CT they dont do that, they just drive the car 20 ft. up onto the dyno, then 20 ft off of it. In this time, the guy doing my car dropped the clutch and put rubber down on the garage floor, and then proceeded to grind the 1-2 shift on the dyno. And I was pretty pissed off at just THAT!

I'm not usually a big proponent of the "sue sue sue" thing, but in this case there has to be something you can do.
