Just a quick hello. Had my car about 3 months now. had fastish cars before, but this is definately the nicest car thats also fast! Finally got the hang of using lift. Its really embarrasing when something alot slower beats you because youre in the wrong gear! Its a great car, and ive done loads of research on the vvtl-i engines. They really are a work of art. only the japs could squeeze that kind of bhp/litre out of a n/a car! :AF:

i already know exactly how fast it is. its fast enough on lift. It feels as fast as the figures given for it. aaaaanyhoo. yeahj i thought i should post about my radiator in the repar & maintanenece section but i can find a new thread button on there! am i missing something?? Its got really bad now. because of how jam packed the engine bay is, its impossible to see where its leaking from. im going to try an dget the air filter off to give me a better idea. been over heating recntly and ive had to pull over to let it cool down. Its leaking quite badly now.so much so that the engine warning light came on! anyone know of any common places that the 190s/t-sports/ GTS's get leaks from? i'd be very greatful if you could tell me. or at least the best way of finding out where the leak is.

Common places for coolant leaks:
1.Waterpump
2.Hoses/clamps
3.Thermostat housing
4.Radiator
5.Headgasket (hopefully not)

You do have to establish first if it's really leaking, or if the system needs to be bled or if you have a Thermostat that is stuck close or even if your fans are working properly.

you guys forget - in England most people drive crappy 1.5L hatchbacks that make 100 hp - a Celica is actually a fast car there.

In America, the Celica is one of the slowest sport compacts around, they don't even make them anymore because the competition was killing it.

Thanks GSBoeg. Thats really helpful. Yes its definately leaking. ive bled it twice only for it to start overheating again after a while. plus when i run the engine there is water pissing out from the underneath engine cover!!!! Fans are working. thermostat must be working because when bled it does hold at a decent temp for a few days until all the water has leaked back out and its full of air again! The rate its ;leaking out makes me think its a hose actually come off. thers a drip when the engines off but when its on it becomes alost a pour from the under guard. It looks really hard to take off aswell. would make it alot easier to see into the engine bay. ive managed to take my air filter off but had to disconnect a few pipes, so then the engine wouldnt start until i put them back on!

Take your underplastics off, start the car with the front end jacked up. Wait a couple minutes for it to warm up and thermostat to open, and you should be able to see where it is leaking from.

Good Luck

Oh and dont forget its a 3 stage cycle to fill your radiator with fluid. The instructions are on the bottom of your stock hood.

Hope this helps and welcome to the board

Welcome to the forum.

The car is leaking because you are making so much power when you hit lift, the engine can barely contain itself. I mean, that car is a ****ing monster when lift engages. I don't know how Toyota did it, how were they able to make it so the engine doesn't just rip through the hood in a blaze of glory when lift kicks in. After 6000rpm your "real" Celica actually propells itself through time it's so fast, what you are feeling is not lift my friend, oh no, it's the very fabric of time and space being ripped apart by your 189 rip-snorting fire breathing horses tearing ass at blistering speed.

As a GT driver, I kneel down before you and only ask that you look upon me as a misguided soul and take me under your wing so I too may one day buy one of the real Celicas. My car, well, I don't have lift. When I hit 6000rpm it just sits in the corner and plays with it's own poop. I can't even pass a parked car. In order to go to work everyday I have to open the door, use my right foot to floor it, and my left foot on the ground "flintstoneing" it so I can get anything that resembles a respectable speed only to see a Celica with lift idle it's way past me leaving a trail of blood, tears, semen and old people lying in it's wake as off in the distance you hear AC/DC go screaming by you as the sound from the car's stereo has not yet been able to catch up with the car itself.

My god, you must get laid everyday in that beast.

Best post I've seen since being on this site.

I mean, I hate bashing my own car, but it's slow. My moms grand am can almost keep up with me.

I just wish I was a little more informed before going out and buying a celica. You know what the sad thing is? The first celica I ever purchased was a 2000 GT 5 speed. After a year I realized how slow it was so I sold it, AND THEN I BOUGHT ANOTHER CELICA. *kills self* Yeah, it's a GTS, but once I hit lift a couple of times I realized that life is all hype. WHY OH WHY DID I BUY ANOTHER CELICA AFTER ALREADY OWNING ONE PREVIOUSLY. :monkey:

I just hope it sells so I can go out an buy an srt-4. At least that car is easy to upgrade.

Save up and buy a used WRX. Much more potential than an SRT, imo

blistering speed? have i missed something? its a fast car. and for a 1.8 n/a it IS very impressive that they can get that kind of power. try and name just 3 other n/a cars with a 1.8 ltr engine with that kind of power. I know exactly how fast it is. 7 secs to 60 is a good acceleration. Not amazingly fast. But in england, at 22 its one of the fastest cars i can insure. And not once have a boasted about getting laid every day?! Youve got too much time on your hands if you need to write a huge paragraph over something like my post. you must never get laid....

Thanks for the help. Some good advice. i have a friend with a garage, so we're gonna get it 7 ft off the ground and have a proper look. think i can see where it is through the grill on the bumper. leaking from the bottom passenger side. more of a guxzzling out than a drip! Hoping it just needs resealing, not a new rad!

how about a wok and some chopsticks while your at it! turbo or s/c your gts and have a fast car that can turn too. if you do get the srt4 try not to become one of the many crash statistics. there is so many better choices tho unless you really gotta have a fast fwd car. i would still prefer my gts with some f/i or nitrous before id even plunk 10g on a srt4

Slight misunderstanding.... Sure a lot of the cars here are more eco friendly then driver friendly however the most common coupe here is the 3 series bmw, with plenty of M3's and merc sl's dotted about.

Yeah. and they are great cars. but with much much bigger engines! we have a fuel crisis over here. it costs roughly $8.50 for a gallon of fuel! crazy! I think thats ahy smaller engines that have good power are so popular over here. Not to mention the insurance is really dear too. Our government hates fast cars!!!
