Does anyone know of an offordable solution to tapping into our cars to get diagnostics??

I see various equipment on the market (autotap etc...) that says they plug directly into OBDII port to get instant vehicle diagnostics. I have seen some items in the $2000 range, and others in the $300 range.

Anyone know of anything cost effective out there that would work on our cars?? I want to purchase something like this to avoid going to the dealership anytime I "think" my car is having problems...

Any ideas/suggestions??

thanks!

Try this one. Only thing though is that you need a PDA. http://www.pocketlogger.com

yea the pocketlogger is the best solution.. especially since you can do a lot with a generic scan tool...

also you can find palms on ebay for REAL cheap

Or if you have a laptop you can get the OBD-2.com one for less.

I've got the obd-2.com one. Works very well.
Only problem is that the obd system refresh is about 5hz. It'd be nice if it were more like 20hz.

can the pocketlogger read CEL codes and clear them? and what info can it display?

Yes it can. It displays all diagnostic info minus the knock sensor. Just go on their website and look at the FAQ. It'll be more detailed.

Thanks for the reply's guys!

I think that for my case, the OBD-2.com one seems like one that will work fine...and I can simply use my laptop instead of buying a PDA.

According to their website...it seems to work real well...and for the $140 or so they want...not bad!

Thanks again guys!!
