I hydro-locked my celica last augest. Blew a nice hole in the block, so I bought a used 2ZZ-GE with 6,000 origional miles from Monkey Wrench Racing for $2,600. It worked great, for three days 'til it left me stranded on the side of the road. So in the heat of the moment had it towed to Toyota, Big mistake, I payed them $200 just to tell me my crank turned 180 degrees. So for sh!ts and giggles I asked them the price to fix it, $8,500  So I called Monkey Wrench and they told me to send it back and they will hook me up with a 40,000 mile 2ZZ. So after a month of remodel at Menards I can finally ship something out their docks. I was so happy I was finally going to get an engine back so I can start driving my car again :wiggle: Until I called them this morning and told me I'm SOL after they told me they sent me an engine with a VERY badly rusted valve-train, and I have to basicly buy another 2ZZ from them  I'm Pissed and very sad at the same time. has anyone else been in this situation before? What should I do? Any advice? Thank you

That's pretty much BS. They should either pay for a local shop to fix what's wrong with the engine, or they should pay for return shipping and fix the problem. Seems like people will either have a love them or hate them experience with MWR...

It Broke down two days after the 30 day warrenty expired but I think they should give me a little break. Its so sad I drove just over 100 miles its an automatic and I babied the hell out of it before it blew

I hope it all gets fixed for you man. They should do something to help you since you just bought the motor.

This is the email they sent me right after the valve fell into the cylinder. [B]Either have it checked out there or send it here and we can check it out. Worst case there was an installation error and we could exchange it for another used engine and charge only the difference between an engine price and the useable parts from the old one. If we can see that there was something wrong with the engine from the start then we could exchange it for another one. I

damn at least minnesota isn't too far away from detroit. that'll reduce ship times and costs a little compared to the rest of the country. at least that's one thing in your favor to shed a wee light on your bad luck...
:shrugs:

hope things work out for you...

Let me get this right they sold you an engine that had a very badly rusted valve train. Then it broke 2 days after the warranty and they want you to buy another engine from them?

They told me thats my only option, they won't even split the bill. so basicly I'm going to have to pay $4,800 for a USED 2ZZ that might break down again

I just don't want anyone to go through the same hell I went through. It's really sad, I had big plans for my celica and I was going to use MWR to get me there. If I ever get my celica up and running again, I will NEVER purchase anything from MWR ever again as long as I live!

I'd be taking their asses to small claims court. If we ever pulled that crap at my shop, well, we just wouldn't! Get a lawyer.

Thats bull man, you know what i would do is take that engine and do a valve job/ mill with new valves and that would be cheaper than a new/ used engine. I dont know hope something works out.

what a rip off! but thanks to you, a lot of the forum members were saved from purchasing defective auto parts from them! i'd say someone should alert the authorities about this, so they can stop this once and for all.

yeah i had exact same prob with my celica.....when i got it it seems that some one jammed a funnel into the valve covewr and pushed the oil gally into the camshaft wich destroyed my top end......needless to say it happened just after the warrenty wuz up......they didnt want to replace it so i threatend to take them to court........needless to say they bought me a new motor ....for them to go to small claims court it would cost more in lawyer fees then what the motor is worth so if they were smart they would send u a new one.....

also.......most used engines come with 2 tabs that are one the block and head........this tabs indicate weither the motor has been over reved or overheated check for them if there not popped.......then i would take them to court...goodluck

I wish it were that easy but the valve turned sideways inside the cylinder and stabbed into the piston and the cylinder head, I can't even get the spark plug out!

thanks, I didn't know about the tabs I'll look for them
